Chrissy Teigen is known for many things. She’s a model, TV host, business woman, mother, and author of two ultra-successful cookbooks: Cravings and the much anticipated follow-up, Cravings: Hungry for More. Her cooking style is fun, never too fussy, and filled with clever takes on beloved classics. From her spicy miso pasta speckled with crispy bacon to her oatmeal cacio e pepe, she’s not afraid to take risks and create new dishes that are filled with whimsy. So when picking out which recipes to include in our green bean casserole recipe showdown, I knew I needed to include hers.
Chrissy Teigen’s recipe is a homemade version of the classic, but still uses the beloved cream of mushroom soup as the base. It includes cheese and ham, transforming it into something richer, cheesier, and more decadent. It looked absolutely delicious, and I was eager to give it a try.

How to Make Chrissy Teigen’s Cheesy Green Bean Casserole
You’ll start by cooking your green beans in boiling chicken broth. Drain the beans and save the broth for another use. Combine cream of mushroom soup, half-and-half, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then add the cooked green beans, diced ham, shredded cheddar cheese, and store-bought crispy fried onions. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle the top with more shredded cheddar. Bake until bubbling, adding additional crispy fried onions to the top during the last few minutes of baking, and that’s it! It’s a super-simple recipe that comes together in no time.
My Honest Review of Chrissy Teigen’s Green Bean Casserole
This recipe was incredibly cheesy, rich, and decadent — so there was nothing at all to dislike about it. It was flavorful and well-seasoned, and the fresh green beans remained nice and crisp. I liked the addition of ham and loved how its saltiness complemented the green beans. I also appreciated how easy the whole thing was to make. Using canned cream of mushroom soup made whipping it up a breeze, and I was able to get it in the oven within a matter of minutes.
While I do think this recipe tastes delicious, it’s not exactly what I think of when I imagine green bean casserole. The cheese gave it a different texture and flavor that I don’t associate with the classic. If you’re looking for a spin that pushes green bean casserole to new places, this recipe is perfect for you. But if you’re searching for a nostalgic, familiar side dish, this isn’t it.
If You’re Making Chrissy Teigen’s Cheesy Green Bean Casserole, a Few Tips
- Feel free to skip the chicken broth and just blanch your green beans in water. I’m not sure cooking the green beans in chicken broth gave the casserole all that much more flavor, so feel free to just blanch them in salted water.
- Use a bold, sharp cheddar cheese. Using a sharp cheddar cheese will lend the casserole a more intensely cheesy flavor compared to a more mild one. Feel free to go for an extra-sharp cheddar if you’d like!
- Add additional crispy onions on top for even more crunch. The crispy onions were my favorite part of this recipe, so feel free to double the amount that goes on top for an additional layer of flavor and crunch.
