Chopped Fans, Rejoice! There’s a New Sweets Series Coming Out This Fall.
If you love Food Network’s hit show Chopped — and why wouldn’t you? — and you love the dessert round, get ready to totally FREAK OUT. Because I am.
Ted Allen is hosting a five-episode series, Chopped: Sweets Showdown, which premieres Tuesday, October 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network. There will be four chefs competing, like on standard Chopped, and they’ll have a sweet ingredient in their mystery baskets that they must integrate into the dishes for the three rounds to make three different beautiful desserts with the clock ticking away fast (as usual).
There will be great judges throughout the series — with renowned chefs and Food Network stars like Florian Bellanger, Valerie Bertinelli, Maneet Chauhan, Scott Conant, Amanda Freitag, Alex Guarnaschelli, Marc Murphy, Chris Santos, Martha Stewart, Sylvia Weinstock, and Zac Young. Good group, right?
Each episode will feature a winner who will then move on to the finale, with the grand prize being $50,000.
Here’s a glimpse into what’s in store: In the premiere, chocolate is the main sweet ingredient of choice for all rounds. In the first round chefs will handle some spicy booze and bonbons. In the second, they get an oversized beverage (mysterious) and some pungent, smelly cheese, and in the third, chefs confront a strange canned item — which is often not a good sign for desserts.
Now just picture the rest of the series! AMAZING. Plus, all chefs get access to their own private ice cream machine, which is a new feature for Chopped that might make the competition slightly friendlier? But probably not because tensions will still be high, causing everyone (or me, at least) to cling to their couches with suspense, rage, fear, and a bunch of other nonsensical emotions that can’t be contained.
