Chip and Joanna Gaines Have a New Baking Competition and It’s Airing This Summer
As we’ve seen on their HGTV show Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna Gaines can tell us what goes into a “farmhouse chic” kitchen. But on June 12, we’re going to see whether a few novice bakers can impress the couple by what comes out of the kitchen.
The first-ever Silos Baking Competition drops on the Gaines’ Magnolia Network and Discovery+, as five home bakers travel to the five-acre Silos property in Waco, Texas (home to the couples’ restaurant Magnolia Market, a coffee shop, and bakery). They’ll compete for $25,000 and the opportunity to have their winning confection join the Silos Baking Co. menu. All they have to do is make it past the panel of judges — including the couple themselves — as they create bakery items in an outdoor baking space surrounded by a live audience (no pressure, of course).
The show follows right along with the raison d’etre the couple created the Magnolia Network — to “highlight beautiful humans who are doing things they’re passionate about,” as Joanna stated during an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show.
Apparently, we’re not the only ones geeking out about this show’s concept. Joanna said in the show’s trailer that this is her “actual dream come true.” Similar to most competition shows, the pressure is as hot as the ovens, and there are plenty of baking accidents (some happy, some not so).
Silos Baking Competition joins a slate of new programming scheduled to air on the Magnolia Network during its summer/fall 2022 season, including chef and food anthropologist Casey Corn’s deep dive into cuisine — Recipe Lost and Found — as well as the reboot, Fixer Upper: Welcome Home.
Want to bring a little bit of baking excitement into your own home? Joanna’s famous flaky biscuit dough from episode 6 of her Magnolia Table cooking show is available for purchase from the Magnolia site.
While you wait on the show’s premiere (or your biscuit dough to hit your doorstep), however, check out the trailer for the new show below.
