I spent my whole childhood hearing my parents say, “Don’t fill up on bread!” and it always seemed tremendously unfair. Great bread is both an art and a science, and sometimes the rolls are the best part of a meal. Case in point: These savory, garlicky rolls from Grandbaby Cakes. They’re warm and buttery, and stuffed with three different kinds of cheese. And if you decide to fill up on bread, go ahead, because these are hearty enough to make a meal by themselves. I promise I won’t tell your parents.

What’s great about this recipe is that you can make the dough yourself, or use store-bought crescent roll dough. If you use the store-bought stuff, the rolls only take about 30 minutes to make — which is great if you’re in desperate need of something cheesy, carb-y, and comforting (which is me, every day).

All garlicky rolls are delicious, but these next-level dinner rolls are filled with a creamy mixture of Parmesan, honey goat cheese, fresh mozzarella, and basil. “From now on, I will always stuff bread with cheese, especially goat cheese and top with garlic butter,” says Jocelyn Delk Adams of Grandbaby Cakes. “The danger is you just can’t have one.”

To make purchased crescent roll dough into a stuffed dinner roll, just wrap it around the filling and pat it into a ball, then arrange all the balls in a cast iron skillet so they’re touching. Then brush everything with a mixture of melted butter, minced garlic, and fresh herbs. After baking, you can brush more of the garlic and butter mixture over the tops to make them extra buttery and garlicky. You’ll want to eat them warm, while the cheese is still melted.
