We are Big Snackers here at Kitchn. We love snacking, talking about snacking, and writing about snacking.
Of course, snacking looks different for everyone. So we asked four of our favorite food people to build their ultimate Kitchn Snack Capsule, featuring one recipe and some store-bought snacks. Up next: Catherine McCord from Weelicious.
Have you ever tried, or heard of, the iconic Palm Springs date shake? At several spots in Southern California’s Coachella Valley, including the fan-favorite Shields Date Garden, you can cool down with a mixture of ice cream, milk, and sweet, jammy dates.
This shake takes its cues from the dessert drink, but I swap in fruits and veggies to create something a bit lighter. A combination of frozen bananas and a few dates adds sweetness, and I use a secret ingredient to make the drink super creamy: frozen cauliflower! The cauliflower’s mild flavor doesn’t compete with the rest of the ingredients and it adds a boost of folate, potassium, and Vitamin C. The best part? My kids love the shakes — and I do, too!
