Caraway’s ceramic nonstick Dutch oven is an editor favorite, but I tend to favor stainless steel when it comes to the majority of my cookware, so this nonstick option never made it onto my “to-buy” list. Recently, though, my interest was immediately piqued when I saw that Caraway launched their stainless steel line of pots and pans, which included a Dutch oven, one of my favorite types of cookware.
I am a huge fan of Dutch ovens (so much so that I own four different enameled cast iron versions). Despite my extensive cookware (and Dutch oven) collection, I didn’t already own anything similar to the 6.5-quart stainless steel Dutch oven. So, I happily put in my order and waited eagerly until it landed on my doorstep.

What Is the Caraway Stainless Steel Collection?
Caraway has built its direct-to-consumer line on their nontoxic ceramic nonstick cookware and bakeware. New to their family is their stainless steel cookware collection. Pieces are made up of five layers of metal — three layers of conductive aluminum fully encased in two outer layers of stainless steel. These layers ensure quick and even heating, helping to avoid hot spots and burned food. Stainless steel is also a nontoxic cooking material, which aligns with the company’s established values.
My Honest Review of Caraway’s Stainless Steel Dutch Oven
This pot filled a hole in my cookware collection that I had been ignoring for a while. While I have several heavy cast iron Dutch ovens, the capacity of my two stainless steel pots are 4 quarts and 8 quarts, which is generally not a huge deal, but annoying when it comes to things like boiling a full pound of pasta or making a large (but not huge) batch of soup. I was either cramming things into what was a too-small pot, or using a too-large pot that was an awkward shape and didn’t fit in my dishwasher.
The size and shape of Caraway’s Dutch oven is really great. The 6.5-quart size really is a nearly perfect all-purpose capacity, and I’m truly kicking myself for not having one for all of these years. Super light and about half as tall as it is wide, it fits nicely on my burners and doesn’t feel cumbersome to use. While I’m no stranger to lugging my cast iron Dutch ovens around my kitchen, this stainless steel version was much more effortless. In fact, it weighs 13 ounces less than my 3.5-quart cast iron Dutch oven, which is especially helpful for busy weeknight cooking for a family.
The rounded corners are a better fit for most of my spoons, spatulas, and immersion blender than my more squared-off pots. I can stir and scrape the bottom, and be more confident I’ve gotten from one edge to the other so there’s much less potential for scorched spots. The lid offers a tight fit, which helps prevent losing too much liquid when simmering.
I’ve already boiled pasta, sautéed and simmered soups, and let a pot of stovetop baked beans cook low and slow for hours. I’ve made several dishes in this pot and every recipe performed wonderfully.
Are There Any Cons to Caraway’s Stainless Steel Dutch Oven?
However, the lightweight nature of this Dutch oven is not a pro for every recipe. I’m not much of a bread baker, but I’m not sure this would perform as well as a traditional cast iron Dutch oven for baking crusty loaves. I also still reach for my cast iron pots when braising large cuts of meat.
Can You Put Caraway’s Stainless Steel Dutch Oven in the Dishwasher?
For me, the ability to toss my stainless steel cookware in the dishwasher is a huge part of the appeal, but Caraway recommends skipping the dishwasher for longevity. Depending on the dish and my energy levels, I’ll wash by hand or put into the dishwasher — it’s still significantly easier to manage than my other Dutch ovens if I’m washing by hand, but honestly, it’s survived several trips through the dishwasher.
Is Caraway’s Stainless Steel Dutch Oven on Sale for Cyber Monday?
Yes, everything at Caraway is up to 20% off, including the stainless steel Dutch oven. This drops the usual $215 price to about half the cost of legacy cookware brands for similarly sized pots.
