It’s fair to say that I’ve been in a pretty nostalgic mood lately. I made a gooey butter cake recipe inspired by my favorite childhood cake flavor, and recently I shared my recipe for Kool-Aid pickles, which were one of my favorite childhood snacks on hot summer days in Texas. This Capri-Sun Punch Cocktail is another throwback to summertime when I was a kid, but with an adult twist.
On a really hot summer day, there was nothing better than a Capri-Sun slushy. We would toss the pouches in the freezer until they were frozen solid, and then let them thaw out a bit until they reached the perfect slushy consistency. Then, we’d just cut the tops off the pouches and eat the Capri-Sun slushy with a spoon. It was so simple, but it felt like such a treat each time.
This summer, I’m recapturing that childhood excitement with a boozy, grown-up version of those Capri-Sun slushies.
What Ingredients Do I Need for a Capri-Sun Punch Cocktail?
All you need is a pouch of Capri-Sun in any flavor (minus the ones that include stevia), a shot of whatever liquor your heart desires, and a wedge of lime.
How Far in Advance Can I Freeze the Capri-Sun Pouches?
You can freeze the pouches for up to a week in advance, so that way you already have them ready to go.
If You’re Making This Capri-Sun Punch Cocktail, a Few Tips
- Avoid the stevia formula. Capri-Sun has made an effort to reduce the amount of sugar in their drinks, which includes a formula with stevia that contains only 1 gram of sugar per pouch. 100% fruit juice Capri-Sun and the monk fruit and sugar Capri-Sun formulas work very well for this recipe, but the lack of sugar affects the way that the stevia based Capri-Sun pouches freeze and thaw. They don’t thaw into the same slushy consistency as the other formulas do.
- Mix and match. This is a great cocktail idea for a get-together because you can let guests choose from different flavors of Capri-Sun and pair it up with various different liquor options like rum or tequila.
- Place a towel down for thawing. Use a kitchen towel to soak up any water released from the pouches while they are thawing.

Ingredients
- 1
(6-ounce) Capri-Sun 100% Juice pouch, any flavor
- 1 ounce
liquor, such as rum or tequila
- 1
lime wedge
Instructions
Freeze 1 Capri-Sun 100% Juice pouch until frozen solid, at least 6 hours. Place on a kitchen towel on the counter and let thaw until the Capri-Sun has melted slightly into a slushy texture, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Using kitchen scissors, cut the top of the Capri-Sun pouch open. Add 1 ounce liquor and squeeze in the juice from 1 lime wedge. Add the lime wedge to the pouch and stir with the attached straw to combine. Eat with a spoon or drink with a wide straw.
