Trends are constantly coming and going — especially when it comes to kitchen cabinetry. From shifting color palettes and a push towards more fluid, curvy shapes, it can be hard to keep up with the styles. However, celebrities always seem to be a major factor when anticipating what will be “in” and what will be “out” in the new year. As trendsetters in all aspects, home design is no exception.

Cameron Diaz recently shared an Instagram reel highlighting her delicious pear cake recipe, but we couldn’t help but notice her oak cabinets in the background. Wood has always been a timeless design choice. Various styles have fluctuated over time, but it certainly seems like stained cabinets are making a comeback. So, we spoke to a couple interior designers to get the scoop on what’s next when it comes to wooden cabinetry.

“Lighter hues offer a versatile canvas, complementing everything from crisp white countertops to colorful artistic tile backsplashes,” explains Gena Kirk, VP of Corporate Studio at KB Home. “And for those who crave a touch of drama, don’t shy away from smoky charcoal or chocolate stains. These bold shades ground a space and can create a modern twist on the nostalgic kitchens of the early aughts. So, whether you are drawn to the timeless elegance of lighter, white oak or the allure of something darker, embrace the character that stained cabinets offer.”

As design has moved away from the monochromatic all-white kitchen aesthetic, deeper styles have come forward. After speaking with experts, those styles are most likely here to stay.

“This shift prominently showcases warmer cabinetry choices, notably embracing materials such as white oak and walnut wood,” says Alex Robinson of Mackenzie Collier Interiors (MCI).  “Foreseeing an ongoing trend, I anticipate a growing desire among homeowners towards even deeper tones in kitchen cabinets. This inclination shows an evolution in design preferences, promising richer, more character-filled spaces in the near future — think more personalization and cozier vibes all around.”

And we couldn’t love it more.
