We here at The Kitchn have been known to indulge in a Wine Wednesday every now and then, wrapping up the workday with a happy hour in the office. During our latest one we cracked open a bottle from actress Cameron Diaz’s brand, Avaline. The company was created by Diaz and Who What Wear founder Katherine Power as an alternative to others that lack transparency about what goes into their bottles. Avaline’s wine is made from organic grapes and is vegan and free of additives.

As you can imagine, we’ve tried our fair share of wines, so as soon as we announced to the wider team that we were planning an in-office tasting, we already had a few Avaline fans on our hands. Three team members immediately expressed their love for the brand’s bestselling rosé. Raquel, our account manager, added that she’s never had a hangover after sipping on Avaline, either. With their endorsements, the rest of us were even more eager to give the six-bottle Essentials set a try. Keep reading to find out which wine stood out to us above the rest!

What Is Avaline’s Williams Sonoma Essentials Set?

Even though we found a clear winner out of them all, we were impressed by all of the offerings included in the Williams Sonoma Essentials Set, which was inspired by Avaline’s partnership with the retailer. The bundle includes two bottles of rosé, two Sauvignon Blancs, one sparkling, and one red. All are made without any added colors, concentrates, or unnecessary sugars.

The rosé, as mentioned, is one of the brand’s most popular options, featuring a light and fresh taste with notes of melon and zest that had multiple staff members going back for another glass. The bubbly sparkling also made Avaline fans out of some of us with its dry and refreshing taste. “I’d definitely serve this for a special occasion or use it to make sparkling drinks like Aperol spritzes,” said our Executive Commerce Director, Mark.

You’ll detect hints of cherry and spice in the red, which happens to be Diaz’s favorite. Ivy, our brand strategy and innovation manager, is in alignment with the actress. She praised its “very balanced and slightly fruity” taste, deciding that it’s the perfect daytime red.

Why We Love Avaline’s Sauvignon Blanc

The Sauvignon Blanc, however, was the overwhelming favorite, earning rave reviews from everyone on our team who tried it. Avaline says that it’s the lightest sip out of all its offerings, which we definitely found to be true. It includes crisp citrus notes and a hint of rose petals; “refreshing” and “smooth” were adjectives our team agreed on. “I loved this wine,” Mark elaborated. “It’s such an easy sip that I feel like you can pair with anything and serve any time of the year. It’s light, fresh, and a little citrusy and makes for a nice glass to relax with.”

Whether you want to sample a little bit of everything with the Williams Sonoma set or snag a single bottle of white, Avaline has something for everyone — and you’ll know exactly what you’re getting in your bottle. You can even get free shipping right now if you splurge on the bundle, so you can cap off summer with this stellar sipping selection. (We’re definitely planning on sipping the Sauv Blanc all year, though!)
