When you show real estate for a living, you get an inside look into current home trends through the desires of potential homebuyers. Realtor Nichole Holmes, who hosts the new Netflix show “Marriage or Mortgage,” has been busier than ever as the Nashville market is continuing to boom. With that comes commentary from clients about what they want their kitchen to look like — and there’s been a lot of chatter around cabinet styles.

Out of all the rooms in a traditional home layout, Holmes reported that the kitchen continues to take priority for homebuyers. And it’s not hard to see why: the kitchen is where all family members and guests gather around, regardless of how many bonus rooms you have. In the last year, cabinets have become a focal point when completing kitchen renovations — and Holmes said people are really leaning into bold colors and metallic hardware.

Holmes has noticed how people are gravitating toward more colorful choices and steering away from the traditional neutrals. “I’m seeing the gray and white trend fade out, which I’m kind of still a fan of. I love a bright, all-white kitchen, and I don’t think it’s ever truly going to go out of style,” Holmes told Apartment Therapy. When it comes to colors she is seeing, Holmes reported that cobalt blue and green are leading the charge.

Holmes reported that she’s seeing these bolder colors paired with different gold toned hardware, but another popular option is also brushed brass. “It’s not quite the oil rub bronze of the ’90s, but it’s not the shiny brass of the ’80s either, it’s kind of like a good in between,” Holmes explained.

Regardless of what color and metallics you pick for your kitchen cabinet, Holmes emphasized that these choices go beyond trends and should be based off of personal taste. “Everyone’s going to have their own opinions. Someone may love what they grew up with in their grandmas house, and they don’t ever want to change it. It’s very individualized.”
