Mornings can be hard — especially if you don’t have anything to look forward to when it comes to the first meal of the day. But thanks to a super-simple, yet super-delicious muffin toasting tip, I’ve started to actually look forward to mornings.

Nothing beats a freshly baked muffin from your own oven, local bakery, or the grocery store — especially when it’s served warm with melty butter. But what if you could make that butter moment even better? Enter: this muffin toasting tip recently shared by @_christianpaul via TikTok (and also shared by Tara Ippolito, also known as AlDenteDiva back in 2020).

To do it, grab your favorite variety of muffin (in my case it was chocolate chip) and slice it in half, removing the wrapper around it. Spread the sliced sides generously with butter (I used salted and it was superb), put the muffin butter-side down in a skillet, and toast over medium-low heat until it’s golden and toasty, which should take a minute or two. The end result? Toasty, buttery, muffiny goodness.

But muffins are just the beginning. This trick also works well with quick breads, like banana bread and zucchini bread. Nina Elder, our executive food director, likes to use this same trick as a way to revive day-old cake doughnuts. Just split them in half and griddle away.

As delicious as the muffin was, I also brainstormed some easy ways I could take this muffin up a notch, such as topping the toasted muffin with freshly grated lemon zest, drizzling it with maple syrup, or even just dolloping it with a little bit of softened cream cheese or sour cream. Needless to say, there are ample directions to go in when it comes to making your morning just a little brighter.
