Confession time: I’ve never been a cheerleader for the single-serve coffee craze that invaded (seemingly) every kitchen. Sure, the convenience was undeniable, but the brew never quite met my expectations. While the low-effort, pod-based machines had their appeal, my shift to a work-from-home lifestyle led me back to the comforting embrace of a traditional coffee maker. That was until Bruvi’s machine entered the scene. With grand promises of revolutionizing the single-serve coffee experience, its irresistible aesthetics lured me in. I mean, just look at that modern design! Nevertheless, I took the plunge on pod-based coffee again.

The Bruvi’s been a member of my household for a solid few months now, and I will say, its design is a visual delight with a convenience factor that is unquestionable. However, does it truly redefine the coffee experience as promised? Well, with a few months (and lots of sips) under my belt, I’ll tell you: It surprised me — in a good way.

Quick Overview

A Quick Look at the Bruvi BV-01 Brewer

  • Makes coffee, espresso, cold brew, and more
  • Touch screen options for hotter, stronger, low-acid, and different sizes of coffee
  • Mobile app can schedule remote brewing, manage consumption dashboards, and order pods
  • Beautifully designed and easy to use
  • Uses sustainable pods that break down in landfills

Design Features That Stand Out

The Bruvi coffee maker, with its modern allure, seems like it was beamed straight from the future — in the best possible way. It’s not your everyday kitchen gadget: It boasts a clean, tech-savvy appearance with a pristine white exterior that’s adorned with chic light wood accents. What sets it apart is its black touchscreen, where you choose your type of brew. The entirety of Bruvi’s setup not only serves its purpose as a coffee maker but transforms it into a luxurious statement piece in my space. The attention to both functionality and aesthetics is something I can’t help but admire.

But this machine isn’t just about looks: It’s packed with features that make it a standout. Take, for instance, the B-Pods that hold a generous 40% more coffee than your typical pod. Beyond that, the machine’s intelligence shines through — it senses the pod inside and lights up corresponding options so you never accidentally brew the wrong thing. It’s the little details like these that make the Bruvi more than a coffee maker. In fact, it’s really a conversation starter that elevates my coffee experience to a whole new level.

How it Performed

For the classic hot coffee experience, the Bruvi offers a seamless customization process. Choose from options like “Low Acid,” employing cooler water for a gentler brew; “Stronger,” delivering a more robust caffeine kick; and “Hotter,” elevating the temperature from 155 to 165 degrees. Personally, I lean towards the stronger option, finding it to be my preferred choice, though the other selections didn’t notably sway my taste.

This versatile brewer caters to various cup sizes, ranging from 1 to 12, allowing you to craft the perfect-sized beverage to suit your mood. Once your preferences are set, the machine swiftly delivers your chosen brew — be it coffee, authentic espresso, Americano, infused coffee, iced coffee, cold brew, or tea — in just a minute (with the exception of cold brew, which takes a bit longer). While I appreciate the diversity of coffee types it produces, the espresso falls a bit short for me, lacking the depth of a coffee shop’s offering. Additionally, the cold brew, while convenient at four minutes (versus an entire day of steeping), leans towards a milder taste.

Nevertheless, having an efficient at-home cold brew option is a definite plus, and the Bruvi’s quick brewing time makes it a convenient choice, even if it doesn’t quite match the intensity of a professional brew.

Once coffee is served, the machine plays a chime that signals completion, and the added convenience of a phone notification (with the app setup) ensures you don’t miss your caffeine fix. I actually really enjoy its app’s tracking feature, which has scheduling capabilities that make it even easier to use — especially on mornings when you’re not ready to get out of bed.

As for the pods, Bruvi’s “Guilt Free Toss” B-Pods impressed me. The ability to dispose of them without opening, combined with a bio-enzyme that allows them to degrade quicker, reflects the brand’s commitment to sustainability. The experience of tossing used pods into the trash, knowing they degrade organically, felt completely fine.

What We Loved

  • The coffee is actually good: My biggest tiff with single-serve coffee makers is the coffee is, in fact, not good. It’s usually bitter and not caffeinated enough for my liking. But this machine’s pods do it differently by holding more coffee and brewing up to seven different beverages.
  • The app is really nice. I can schedule it to brew a cup of coffee in the morning the night before, or I can have it ready at the last minute when I walk through the door. It’s like having a personal coffee assistant, and I love it.
  • Its pods are sustainable: Not only do they hold up to 40% more coffee than a regular pod, but they’re designed to break down much quicker than typical plastic pods do.
  • It’s easy to clean: Simply remove the pod waste bin, drip tray, and water tank (which holds a generous 70 ounces) and wash it all with a soft cloth, warm water, and mild dishwashing soap. Once it’s dry, you put it back together — easy peasy.

Good to Know

It’s important to point out that you’re not limited to only using Bruvi’s exclusive B-Pods. It has reusable pods, too. So, you can continue savoring your all-time favorite coffee blends and pack them into the pod. Plus, you can still shop for Bruvi’s exclusive B-Pods if you’re feeling adventurous, but having the option for your go-to coffee gives you the best of both worlds.

Should You Buy the Bruvi BV-01 Brewer?

Overall, I think the Bruvi BV-01 Brewer is an excellent pick if you’re looking for a single-serve coffee maker. But I’d specifically recommend it if you’re looking for something that:

  • Elevates your kitchen’s aesthetic
  • Enhances your coffee-making experience
  • Is environmentally conscious
  • Makes your morning routine a snap

In my opinion, this machine is well worth the splurge. If you’re someone who buys coffee every day, it can add up, and with such a good system at home, it pays for itself over time. Plus, with a 4.7/5 star rating on its website and a 4.1/5 star rating on Amazon (and a 5-star rating from me!), this coffee maker lives up to its claims and is definitely a great pick for single-serve coffee due to its quality, convenience, and style.
