When it comes to candles, I sometimes feel a little bit like Goldilocks. Too sweet or fruity, not spicy or bold enough, you get the drill. I originally thought I gravitated toward more fresh and woody scents, striking my own candle profile separate from the sugary vanilla aromas that my mom liked to burn or floral scents from my grandma’s home. I went through herb-forward candles with notes of eucalyptus or basil and nature-inspired blends with juniper and balsam but never found my signature scent. It wasn’t until I discovered the Sweet Fig candle from Brooklyn Candle Studio that all of my candle identity problems were solved. I instantly fell in love with the sweet figs and earthy undertones that come together for a surprisingly calming scent.

Even before you light this candle, you can immediately smell the fig, with a sweet note from the rosewood. I love the scent of it so much that I like to keep the top off even when it’s not lit and let the aroma fill the room. I remember when I first burned the candle years ago, I was having a stressful day. Not long after lighting this candle did I start to feel calmer, the cozy smell grounding and reassuring me. It’s no surprise I felt this way either because Brooklyn Candle Studio describes this blend as refreshing and soothing, perfect for burning while doing yoga or meditating.

While the middle notes are of Mediterranean fig, the top note is rosewood and the base notes are amber and patchouli. The base notes are what allow the candle to strike the perfect balance between earthy and sweet, resulting in such a calming smell. Each of the candles from Brooklyn Candle Studio is made with soy wax that gives off a clean, eco-friendly burn. This 7.5-ounce jar has a burn time of up to 50 hours, while its elegant, minimalist Mason jar design will look sleek and sophisticated on your table.

For Valentine’s Day this year, I’m gifting myself a new Sweet Fig candle. I know it’ll be the perfect way to unwind and set the tone for a day I plan to spend treating myself. And while I highly recommend this scent for relaxing on February 14, I know it would also make for a great Valentine’s Day present. Because of its sweet scent, it’ll pair perfectly with a box of chocolates and a cozy date night indoors.

The best part about this candle might be that it’s actually a year-round scent. It’s light and refreshing for spring or summer, while it’s warm and soothing enough for a chilly fall or winter day. You can buy it directly from Brooklyn Candle Studio with an option to subscribe — something I plan on doing so I’ll never have to go Sweet Fig-less again!
