When it comes to a stylish lunch, the Japanese art of bento reigns supreme. We showed you some clever and playful bento arrangements yesterday, but today I want to just talk about the boxes. Traditionally, bento boxes were made out of wood. Here are five really beautiful examples from Japantique.

These boxes are all designed with compartments for the traditional Japanese lunch: rice and accompaniments such as fish, meat, pickled vegetables, or noodles.

Bento of course has taken on a life of its own beyond the traditional lunch, with playful and colorful creations that get downright artistic. But I really like these wood boxes, a classy and beautiful way to carry lunch to work.

Would you ever use one of these? Or do you prefer more modern glass and plastic snap-tight containers?
