Brighten Up Summer Drinks with Melon Ball Ice Cubes

At one time or another we’ve all added something tasty to give our plan ‘ol glass of water or fizzy seltzer a little boost. A squeeze of lemon or lime, a few slices of cucumber, perhaps a few sprigs of mint.

This summer try something a little different. Cool off your drinks and add a hint of fresh flavor with melon ball ice cubes.

I stumbled across this genius tip on Pinterest recently, and it was too good not to share with you!

Use one type of melon or any combination of your favorite varieties. I love using a blend of watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew. They each offer a slightly different sweet flavor, and the rainbow of colors is so pretty together.

Tips for Making Melon Ball Ice Cubes:

All you need is your favorite type of melon, a melon baller, a baking sheet and some wax or parchment paper.

  • Half the melon: Cut each melon in half crosswise
  • Scoop out the melon balls: Use a melon baller to scoop out the desired amount of melon
  • Arrange on a baking sheet: Arrange the melon balls, without touching, on a wax paper or parchment-lined baking sheet
  • Freeze: Place the baking sheet in the freezer to chill for 3 to 4 hours. If you don’t plan to use the melon ice cubes right away you can store them in a large freezer bag.
