She was the founding Design and Lifestyle Editor for Kitchn and the Managing Editor for Apartment Therapy’s green living site, Re-Nest (RIP). After a few years offline and then working elsewhere, she’s back to share ideas about design, kids, and family life. It’s helpful that she now has two little kids and lots of thoughts about all those things. She lives with said kids and their father in St. Paul, MN.

I’ll go on record saying that I don’t think there’s a single thing I don’t like in Briana and Dominic’s Austin kitchen. The mix of closed and open shelving, the colors, the impeccably organized and labeled jars lining the shelves — there is so much style here, but clearly this is a kitchen that’s used. And what’s more… it’s a rental!

Not surprisingly, the kitchen is the couple’s favorite element in the home. “It’s easily the largest space in the house, and since Dom and I both love to cook, we spend most of our time there,” says Briana in this Apartment Therapy House Tour.

One way to keep open shelves from looking too disorganized? Make uniform labels for all your jars, and neatly line them up.
