I’m pretty new to the wide world of dump cakes. As a former professional baker, I know my way around a cake, but now as a recipe developer I’ve definitely expanded my horizons. From apple dump cake to peach dump cake, I have yet to try a dump cake I didn’t like. My favorite so far is blueberry dump cake. Between the sweet, jammy blueberries and buttery cake, there’s so much to love. Plus, it’s an easy way to level up store-bought staples, which is always a pro move in my book.

What Makes Blueberry Dump Cake So Good?

I’m already a big fan of easy bakes, so it didn’t take much to convince me from the get-go to give this four-ingredient blueberry dump cake a try. All you need is blueberry pie filling; your choice of yellow, white, or lemon cake mix; butter (the more, the better); and fresh or frozen blueberries. It also only takes 10 minutes to prep.

To make it, start by literally dumping the blueberry filling into a baking dish (make sure to spread it evenly), then scatter the cake mix over the top. Thinly slice the butter and arrange on top so it covers the entire surface. Finish it off with a layer of blueberries, and then bake until golden-brown and bubbly. That’s it!

Let’s get to how good it tastes. One reviewer summed it up perfectly as, “Delish!” According to our cross-tester, “The cake was soft with a crispiness on top, and the berries were sooo jammy and not too sweet.” I have to agree. The super-jammy blueberries and tender cake are one of the main reasons I make this on repeat. Top with a hefty scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you’ve got the ultimate summer dessert.
