I Tried Betty Crocker’s New Boxed Mix and It’s So Good, I’m Buying 2 More Boxes
As a dessert person and grocery editor, I keep a close eye on the new and coming-soon boxed mixes popping up in the baking aisle. Sometimes these brand-new releases give me a feeling of déjà vu (I could have sworn I’d tried that cake mix years ago!). Then there are those launches, like Betty Crocker Oreo Truffle Mix, that I truly haven’t seen before — and can’t wait to try.
I’m all too familiar with Betty Crocker boxed mixes and the brand’s many tasty collaborations (if you haven’t tried the Betty Crocker Reese’s Brownie Mix, you must!). As an already major fan of Oreos, I had high hopes for the new Betty Crocker Oreo Truffle Mix. Naturally, I grabbed a box to try it for myself. Spoiler alert: It’s amazing.
What You Should Know About Betty Crocker Oreo Truffles Mix
This isn’t the first time Betty Crocker and Oreo have teamed up. The dynamic duo are behind one of my favorite boxed brownie mixes: the Betty Crocker Oreo Brownies. The Oreo Truffle Mix is new this year, and a limited-edition item (presumably for Valentine’s Day).
The baking mix comes in an 8.6-ounce box and, according to the box, requires no baking time and makes 12 truffles. You’ll need little more than 1/2 stick of butter and a tablespoon of water to make the truffles, which come with their own pouch of powdered sugar. Boxes are still slowly rolling out across the country, but can already be found at Walmart.
My Honest Review of Betty Crocker Oreo Truffles Mix
I love a very involved baking project (like a layered cake) but I won’t lie: A huge allure of this new boxed mix was the fact that it was no-bake. Sometimes I just want a sweet treat without any of the work! The instructions were easy and included just three steps.
- Mix the truffle mix with melted butter and water.
- Roll the mixture into (1-tablespoon-sized) balls.
- Dust the truffles with the powdered sugar.
That’s it! No baking or any intricate technical skill involved. I did the entire process from start to finish in just under 10 minutes (which included a washing-my-hands break) and made 11 truffles. The box does say it makes 12, and I am sure I could’ve gotten 12 if I’d used a tablespoon to accurately measure each one out, but I opted to eyeball it.
As for taste, these little truffles are incredible. They are rich, chocolaty, and everything that I love about Oreos but 1000x more decadent, thanks to the melted butter — truly melt-in-your-mouth perfect.
My only qualm was that it feels like such a big box for such a small amount of truffles (grandmas totally get what I’m saying). Maybe I’ll just buy two boxes next time; I absolutely will be repurchasing it for Valentine’s Day.
