Sometimes, words just aren’t enough. You need an expert in a video to hold your hand! When it comes to home improvements, YouTube is the best for watching experienced people walk through projects you might be afraid to tackle on your own. Seeing people do things in real time, talking through the process and addressing snafus as they come up, has given people all kinds of confidence to DIY.

If you’re thinking about tackling a little renovation, check out these YouTube videos to help you along the way.

1. Install a new kitchen faucet.

Ready to upgrade the faucet at your sink? Check out this video first. Produced by Lowes, it does a good job of explaining what supplies you’ll need, how to make sure your new faucet will work, and each of the steps towards getting the new one in place and ready to use.

2. Replace cabinet doors.

If your cabinet doors are blah, but the cabinets themselves are in good shape and in a good layout, you can switch out just the doors to get a new look. This guide shows you all the steps — from drawing a layout to drilling the holes and hanging the doors, with smart tips along the way.

3. Paint counters to look like granite.

A smart upgrade for dingy laminate countertops, granite or marble paint kits can get amazing results, but are a little trickier than you might think. This video from Today’s Homeowners offers a nice visual breakdown.

4. Install subway tile.

Not all tile projects are created equal — subway tile can be surprisingly tricky. This video from Home Renovision DIY addresses the hurdles you have to jump over with subway tile and shows some clever tricks to get it looking great.

5. DIY some rustic shelving.

Whether you’re going all out with open shelving instead of upper cabinets or you just want to add a few shelves here and there on an empty wall, its hard to beat rustic shelves that you can make with just a couple pieces from the hardware store. This video will show you how to make shelves that Chip and Joanna Gaines would be proud of.

6. Fix a leaky faucet.

Save yourself some money and try to fix a leaky faucet on your own before calling a plumber. It’s not that hard and this video will walk you through it. Note: This video is for a faucet with a single handle (rather than faucets that may have separate handles for hot and cold water).

7. Stencil your tiled floor.

Give your dated tiled floor a whole new look without ripping up a single piece. This video shows you how to prep the tiles, paint them, and stencil on a fun design.
