This Simple Hack Will Upgrade Your DIY Pastry Bags Forever
If you bake regularly, you know you can end up spending a small fortune on pastry bags. Sure, substituting zip-top bags can save money, but it can also result in some strange-looking, unintended shapes — unless you try this super-simple hack.
According to a nine-second video Half Batch Baking posted on TikTok, “If you use a Ziploc instead of a pastry bag, you want to make sure you cut the edge round for a perfect circle. If you cut the bag on a diagonal, you’ll end up with an oblong shape.”
This baking tip was so simple that 19,000 viewers gave the video a heart, and the most liked comment was, “Wait why didn’t I think of that?”
It turns out that many home bakers have faced this problem. “Omg this would have helped so much when I was making macarons,” wrote one fan. “I couldn’t figure out why they were wonky.” Another shared, “That’s why my cookies are shaped weird.”
You can watch the video above, then try this hack yourself by making some classic macarons or a batch of round Lucky Charms cookies. It will even work on éclair and cream puff shells, confirms Half Batch Baking. And I can bet it’ll work on whatever else your favorite is, too.
