My best friend and I have this quote that we like to say each other: “Now I’m just eating butter.” It doesn’t mean anything, but it makes us laugh and remember this one time, years ago, when we were out at a restaurant and we were devouring the pre-meal bread basket. We had each eaten a slice of bread, but we couldn’t stop talking about the perfectly salted butter that was included in the basket. Not wanting to eat any more bread, I watched my friend grab a spoon and help herself to just some butter. And I totally respected her for it — and did the same.

Butter is amazing. Good butter is even more amazing. Would you also eat butter straight off a spoon? Then you’ll be interested in these fun finds. As far as I’m concerned, I consider them must-haves for any butter-lover.

1. OXO Good Grips Butter Dish

This is the bestselling butter dish on all of Amazon, and I agree that the masses are on to something. It’s got a flat, stainless steel surface (ideal for effortless butter slicing), has a clear lid (which helps you know when you’re running low), and has two stoppers at each end that act as butter bumpers (to keep your stick or nubs from sliding around). It’s also got rubber feet that keep the whole thing from sliding around while you slice.

2. Butterup Knife

Maybe you’ve seen videos of this knife in action? (If not, you can watch one here!) Not only is it incredibly soothing to watch, but it’s also highly effective. It can sculpt out spreadable ribbons from even the coldest stick, so that you don’t have to waste any time — or risk ripping up slices of bread.

3. Butter Mill

This Butter Mill works like the knife above, only it churns out ribboned butter in more of a bulk scale. More butter!

4. Chef’n Buttercup Butter Maker

I initially got this years ago because I thought it’d be fun to use during at-home brunches with my friend. And guess what? It’s so much fun that I use it all the time. I make my own butter, just for the fun of it! You just fill it up with heavy whipping cream, shake it up, and strain off the buttermilk. I add a lot of salt and it’s seriously better than most store-bought butters.

5. Stainless Steel Butter Spreader

If I had to make a list of restaurant tools that belong in home kitchens, this would be pretty high on the list. In fact, I have made that list and it took the first spot! See, it’s what Jessica Koslow (of Sqirl!) uses for her famous toast. Just put some melted butter in the bottom and roll a slice of bread right over the wheel for an even, fully buttered slice.

6. Dansk Kobenstyle Butter Warmer

Speaking of melted butter, this cute little pot is the best way to turn a stick of butter into a golden pool of perfection. I’m surprised by how often I use mine (we eat a lot of popcorn in my house), and Kitchn’s Editor-in-Chief, Faith Durand, says the same thing.
