You’d think it’d be too early to predict what people will be buying for stocking stuffers, white elephant swaps, and coworker gifts, but I already have a hunch — and I feel very confident about it. What am I putting my money on? These reusable silicone straws by GIR. Here’s why I love them so much and what makes them such a great gift.

First of all, the price point is just right. Most white elephant swaps that I’ve been a part of have had a $20 cap attached to them and this set comes in right at that amount. The gift feels substantial, too. It’s not just one thing — it’s a whole set! So let’s talk about the set, shall we?

By now, pretty much everyone has heard of (or seen) the video featuring the sweet sea turtle with a plastic straw stuck up its nose (If you haven’t, watch it at your own risk. It’s tragically sad.) While many restaurants nationwide are banning plastic straws, we (as consumers) can do our part, too. Which means bringing our own reusable straws with us when we’re out and about. (Skip the paper ones because those are wasteful, too!)

Of course, lots of brands make reusable straws now. There are stainless steel straws, bamboo straws, glass straws, and plenty of silicone straws. But these new ones from GIR are, hands-down, my favorites now.

The set comes with 10 bendy-yet-durable silicone straws, five special cleaning brushes, and four travel cases. Armed with the set, the lucky recipient can put a straw or two in a travel case and toss the whole thing in a bag. When it’s time for, say, an iced coffee or a seltzer, the straw can be put to use and then get stashed away again until it can be cleaned. (“Toss these straws in your bag, not in the ocean!” the company says.) I got a set a few weeks ago and am incredibly impressed by them: They’re easy to clean, super cute, and totally effective. And because you get so many in a set, I find that I can always have some in rotation.

I love that the set fits comfortably into a Christmas stocking. It could also be a very meaningful gift for your work wife who you’re always grabbing afternoon coffees with. And it’s sure to get stolen a few times during a white elephant exchange. Also, for what it’s worth, the straws are made by GIR, the company that makes our most favorite spatulas of all time.
