I Tried Nearly a Dozen Different Stainless Steel Wipes — These Are, Hands Down, the Very Best
I have a love-hate relationship with my stainless steel appliances. And that’s too bad because I have a lot of them. My refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and oven are all stainless. Ditto for my trash can and recycling bin, and my espresso machine. While I love the modern, uniform look stainless surfaces bring to my kitchen, I don’t love how easily they accumulate messy fingerprints. In fact, I hate it.
So I’ve been on the hunt for a trustworthy solution. My grandma introduced me to Weiman Stainless Steel Wipes last year, but I’ve always been curious to see if there’s a better option out there. That’s when I decided to do an experiment in my kitchen to find the very best stainless steel cleaning wipes. Let’s take a look!
How I Chose the Stainless Steel Wipes
As stainless steel appliances become more commonplace, so are convenient stainless steel wipes. While I know they are not the most environmentally-friendly option for cleaning appliances, I also don’t use them every day. So, I feel OK about using them once in a while, especially if I reduce waste in other areas.
Finding several candidates to try wasn’t hard — I scoured Amazon, Target, Home Depot, and Walmart’s websites. Most of the wipes I picked had solid ratings and reviews on their respective websites, and some of them came from familiar brands I’ve used before. Other brands I was less familiar with, but no less intrigued by. To find the best product, I tried nearly a dozen different brands of stainless steel wipes — at all different price points.
How I Tested The Stainless Steel Wipes
Once I decided on the candidates, I had to come up with a way to test them. I used each wipe on different, greasy spots on my refrigerator, following the instructions on the package. After trying each wipe, I buffed the fridge door with a microfiber cloth.
I decided to judge each one based on price, effectiveness (how well they removed smudges and spots from my fridge), and of course, whether they left annoying streaks after I used them. I also judged how sturdy and moist each individual wipe was (some, sadly, were dry and flimsy from the get-go).
To track my progress, I took notes and pictures, and I ended up choosing a few favorites. One product, though, stood out above all the rest — and it’s safe to say I’m keeping it on hand at all times.
Best Overall: Weiman Stainless Steel Wipes
I’ve been using Weiman wipes for a year per my grandma’s recommendation, and after trying all the other options, I understand precisely why they’re her favorite. Of all the wipes I tested, Weiman was the easiest to use and the most effective. The wipe itself was thick and moist — far above any other wipe I used — and I can only describe the experience of wiping the fridge as buttery. The residue was easy to buff out, and my fridge looked shiny and polished, almost like my kids had never touched it! Many of the wipes had a strong smell, but Weiman was barely noticeable. Five stars!
Runner Up: MiracleWipes for Stainless Steel
My second favorite wipe: MiracleWipes. These were right up there with Weiman wipes when it came to effectiveness and post-wipe shine, but they just weren’t quite as sturdy or moist, which made them a little less satisfying to use. They smelled really good, though — probably the best of all the wipes I tried. The natural coriander-lime scent was pleasant but subtle. If Weiman wasn’t available, or if I wanted my kitchen to smell like a tropical oasis, MiracleWipes would be my top choice.
Best Earth-Friendly Option: Everspring Stainless Steel Wipes
It feels a little odd to call any wipe earth friendly, but I wanted to designate a category for Everspring wipes because they’re compostable and made with 100% natural fragrance and 99% bio-based ingredients. Because these wipes come in a smaller, more compact package, they come out of the package very, very wet. These wipes smell amazing, too — they have a nice lemon-mint scent. For anyone who prioritizes greener cleaning, these wipes are worth it.
