This Handy Bowl Set Saves So Much Time on Kitchen Prep and Cleanup, It’s This Pryrex Fan’s Newest Go-To
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about taming kitchen messes, it’s about the importance of cleaning as you go rather than waiting to tackle big piles later on (and always with way less energy). Washing all your food prep dishes as you use them, though, can get a little annoying. Sure, you might spend less time cleaning up later, but you also have to wait longer to get dinner on the table. Then nobody’s happy!
My simple solution? I’ve been aiming to reduce the number of dishes I use when I’m preparing food — using the same bowls to prepare and serve when I can, for example, or putting some foil on a serving bowl to store leftovers in the refrigerator.
I’d been working with what I had at home, but when I found these Pyrex mixing bowls with lids, I knew I had to add them to my cupboards. I needed new mixing bowls and a few extra food storage containers anyway, and I was excited to find out how the combination could change the game in my kitchen.
I’ve been a big Pyrex fan for a while now. I adore the sturdy glass construction of my food storage containers, and how easy it is to heat up leftovers in the microwave (and in many cases, eat said leftovers directly out of the Pyrex). Bonus? The glass never gets stained or smells like last week’s dinner.
Until now, though, I’ve never actually prepared food in a Pyrex. This mixing bowl set made that so easy. It comes with four different-sized bowls: 1 quart, 1.5 quarts, 2.5 quarts, and 4 quarts. Each one also comes with its own different-colored lid, so you can store what you mix in the bowl in the fridge. I love how easy they are to store without hogging a ton of space on my shelves — just nest them like you would any other mixing bowls!
The set makes mealtime a breeze, too. I’ve recently been cooking a lot from The Mediterranean Dish, a new-ish cookbook with tons of nutritious and delicious salad recipes. Last week, I whipped up this amazing Mediterranean-inspired tuna salad in the 2.5-quart-sized bowl, then just popped the lid on and kept it in the fridge for a few days for easy lunches. One fewer food storage container to wash!
For a family meal, I also made a simple Greek salad from the cookbook, which I put together in one of the smaller bowls and then served at the dinner table. Once we were done, it was so easy to pop a lid on the container and store it in the fridge for my lunch the next day (highly recommend adding chickpeas to the mix for a bit of protein).
On top of making my go-to recipes a cinch, I’m loving the way the bowls have already inspired new meal ideas. I can’t wait to marinate chicken or steak in one of the bowls; it’ll be so easy to put the lid on and let the juices do their thing in the fridge for a few hours before I cook. I’m also excited to use the bowl set for holiday gatherings (my grandma’s famous mashed potatoes, and lots of fun salads and dips are coming to mind).
Either way, I know I’ll be spending less time cleaning and more time enjoying whatever it is I decide to make. Who knew mixing bowls could make my time in the kitchen and dining room so convenient?
