When it’s been a total day and I’m still on the hook for feeding myself and my family, you can be sure there will be pasta. Enjoyed equally by all four members of my family, pasta is a panacea that seems to miraculously come together while I’m listening to NPR and scrolling through my phone (aka “me time”). What, really, can be wrong with the world when you’re twirling your fork through a big plate of saucy noodles? Not much.

So it’s no surprise that we at Kitchn love our jarred sauces — meal starters that come to the party with plenty of dynamic flavor without an excess of effort. Here are the three best jarred pasta sauces we tried in 2022.

Rao's Homemade
$13.00

The sauce maestros of my heart, Rao’s Homemade, released a new line of limited-edition products earlier this year, including balsamic vinegar, onion compote, and three new marinara sauces. The Cardoncelli Mushroom Marinara won us over with its silky texture and savory flavor. That big umami flavor was thanks to the cardoncelli mushrooms, gathered from around Puglia. And unlike some other jarred sauces with mushrooms, which can lean toward blandness, this one delivers satisfying mushroom aroma and flavor, making it perfect for an easy weeknight dinner.

Zia Pia Imports
$7.50

Kitchn contributor Katie Leaird knows her pasta and, by extension, what sauce serves it best, and if she’s not spooning passata di pomodoro straight out of the food mill, the recipe developer swears by Perché Ci Credo Tomato Sauce for its bold and fresh taste. Available online in bottle-capped 11.6 oz jars, Perché Ci Credo is available in flavors like basil, ricotta, and sun-dried tomato.

World Market
$5.99

Calling all mushroom-lovers! Dave’s Gourmet Wild Mushroom Pasta Sauce harnesses the rich umami flavor of porcini and shiitake mushrooms in every jar. Earthy mushrooms find balance with red wine and a touch of cream in this jarred sauce, which would be right at home in a baked pasta dish.
