June gloom has settled over California, but there’s no way I’m going to let the weather get in the way of my excitement for summer — beach days, picnics, and barbecues feel so close. And with all of those fun outdoor activities comes the food. Tons of new grocery items hitting shelves this June hint at the carefree feeling and nostalgia that summertime evokes: plant-based ice cream that brings the delight of banana splits all into one pint, gooey Brie cheese that’s intended for the grill, and strawberry shortcake-inspired cereal reminiscent of the ice cream truck classic.

I tried dozens of new products launching this month. These 10 are the ones I’ll be stocking in my freezer, pantry, picnic basket, and beach cooler.

1. Mason Dixie Maple Liege Waffle Sandwich with Chicken Sausage

If you read last month’s column, you’ll know that liege waffles are becoming more popular in the freezer aisle, including in sandwich form. These breakfast treats from Mason Dixie include maple-infused waffles hugging a spiced chicken-apple sausage patty. They can be microwaved or oven-baked and make for an ideal breakfast on the go. Although deliciously sweet and savory on its own, the sandwich’s appeal increases tenfold when adding a slice of cheese.

2. Pringles Farmhouse Cheddar Harvest Blends

Sometimes cheddar-flavored chips can taste dusty and overly artificial, and leave neon orange-stained fingertips in their wake. This is not the case for these new Pringles, which have a delicious wheat-forward flavor as their base. The buttermilk and cheddar cheese coating is not excessively cheesy, which leaves room for the base of these iconic-shaped crisps to shine.

Find it in stores: Pringles Harvest Blends Farmhouse Cheddar, $2.69 for 5.5 ounces at Ahold, Food Lion, Hannaford, Albertsons, Walgreens, Giant Eagle, ShopRite, Kroger, Walmart, and Meijer

3. Malt O Meal Strawberry Shortcake Cereal

Imagine the iconic cinnamon toast cereal, but strawberry-flavored. That’s what you get with this bright-pink bag. These strawberry-dusted squares have the same look and texture of the beloved cereal, but will turn your milk into a rosy hue with the faint flavor of sweet strawberry. If you’re a fan of strawberry shortcake Popsicles, you’ll love this. Bonus: There’s a cute corgi on the packaging.

4. Alouette Brie for Grilling

Straight out of the box, this tiny wheel of Brie cheese is not as soft and oozing as your typical triple-cream Brie — which is why you should definitely grill it, as intended. A drizzle of olive oil and five minutes in a hot grill turns this cheese into a creamy wonderland with a mild flavor. Spruce it up by drizzling hot honey over it to finish.

Find it in stores: Alouette Brie for Grilling, $5.99 for 4.5 ounces at Hy-vee, Giant Eagle, Giant Carlisle, King Kullen, Stop & Shop, Harris Teeter, Tops, and Albertson Safeway

5. Oatly Banana Split Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

Unlike vegan ice creams of the past, Oatly nails the texture of a classic summertime sundae. There’s no chalkiness to be found in each scoop of the new dairy-free frozen dessert, but there’s plenty of sweet banana flavor, chocolate ripples, and strawberry. The treat is also gluten-free, non-GMO certified, and nut-free, so everyone can enjoy it.

Find it in stores: Oatly Banana Split Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert, starting at $4.99 for 16 ounces at Whole Foods Market, Schnucks, and Albertsons

6. You Need This Sea Salt Almond Flour Crackers

These certified gluten-free crackers are replacing all the other crackers in my pantry — and no, I’m not gluten-free. There’s an irresistible crispness to each square, which is perfectly coated in sea salt crystals. Although they’re delicious as a base for cheese and charcuterie, I enjoy eating them individually too in lieu of chips and popcorn.

Find it in stores: You Need This Sea Salt Almond Flour Crackers, starting at $3.99 for 3.5 ounces at Shoprite, Giant, Fresh Thyme, and Instacart

7. BelliWelli Crunchy Peanut Butter Chocolate Snack Bar

Probiotics can be found in kombucha, kimchi, yogurt, and, now, even a dessert-like bar. The BelliWelli crunchy peanut butter chocolate bar has the same texture as Fig Newtons — pliable and soft — with flecks of crushed peanuts and chocolate chips throughout. The dreamy combination of chocolate and peanut butter is impossible to fault.

8. SOMOS Salsa Macha Mexican Chili Crisp Nuts & Seeds

This SOMOS take on salsa macha is worthy of adding to your collection. Made with whole ingredients, this nutty blend of sesame seeds, pepitas, and almonds pairs magically with guajillo peppers and garlic for a flavorful oil-based salsa that isn’t too spicy. Drizzle it on tacos or rice bowls to punch up the savoriness.

9. Immi “Pork” Tonkatsu

Immi is for ramen-lovers who want the same efficiency you get from instant ramen with more protein. Each pack of this new pork tonkatsu flavor (which is actually completely vegetarian) boasts 21 grams of protein and 18 grams of fiber — 21% and 64% of your daily value, respectively. The noodles are made out of pumpkin seed protein, while the powder blend contains shallot, shiitake mushroom, garlic, and tomato powder. It’s not quite as porky as other pork-flavored ramens on the market, but just as easy to prepare. I’d encourage boiling the noodles for a little bit longer than suggested to make sure they aren’t too al dente.

10. La Terra Fina Jalapeño Pepper Jelly Dip & Spread

Sweet and spicy is a flavor combination that works so well, and that’s true for La Terra Fina’s new jalapeño pepper jelly spread. The first note is the jammy sweetness of cherries, followed by mellow red bell pepper. Before long, the pervasive bite of jalapeño permeates everything, giving the dip a deliciously spicy kick that’s actually hot. You can use this as a dip for chips or spread it on sandwiches. Because of its cream cheese base, it’s also great either hot or cold.

If spicy isn’t your thing, La Terra Fina also just released an herby dill pickle spread, classically delicious caramelized onion with roasted garlic, and a sweet chocolate and chocolate chip dip that is great by the spoonful.

Find it in stores: La Terra Fina Jalapeño Pepper Jelly Dip & Spread, $5.49 for 10 ounces at Market Basket, Hy-Vee, Woodman’s, and Kroger
