10 New Cookbooks We Can’t Wait to Get Our Hands on This Fall
We are on the brink of fall cookbook release season which, for us at Kitchn, is more exciting than Starbucks’ annual “The Pumpkin Spice Latte Is BACK” announcement. Just like fall fashion magazines, which are typically the biggest issues of the year (TBT to when I’d wait by the door to see who was on the cover of my September issue of Seventeen), fall cookbooks feature the best of the best.
Speaking of the best, these are the cookbook titles we are patiently awaiting. But these aren’t just our predictions for best-sellers — while we’re certain that everyone is going to be clamoring for Ina Garten’s Cook Like a Pro and Chrissy Teigen’s latest Cravings: Hungry for More (so are we), we wanted to feature a few books that caught our eye for other reasons too (yes, there’s an Instant Pot cookbook). Here’s our list.
1. Cook Like a Pro: Recipes & Tips for Home Cooks by Ina Garten (October 23)
If Ina’s cookbook isn’t at the top of a best cookbooks list, something is wrong. (We’re kind of kidding but also not.) As with everything else Ina has ever produced, this flawless book (her 11th!) is filled with trustworthy recipes that taste delicious and don’t require a culinary degree to make (just a few of her pro tips). Once you make it to the end, all of Ina’s helpful hints for prepping, cooking, serving, and hosting will be permanently ingrained in your mind. #Goals.
2. Season: Big Flavors, Beautiful Food by Nik Sharma (October 2)
We can’t wait to get our hands on Nik Sharma’s first cookbook. The creator of the award-winning food blog A Brown Table and columnist at the San Francisco Chronicle has been a friend of Kitchn for years now (see his kitchen tour!) and we couldn’t be more excited to flip through the pages of this gorgeous number.
Marked with his signature hands-on cooking tutorials and dramatic-light photography, this book contains inspiring recipes that you’re going to want to add to your regular rotation. Sharma’s unexpected flavor combinations will feel like a welcome hug.
3. Ottolenghi Simple: A Cookbook by Yotam Ottolenghi (October 16)
Fans of this master of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine will be pleased to learn that you can cook like Ottolenghi in under 30 minutes or in one pot (!!!) without skimping on flavor. And you can, of course, expect his signature veggie-forward dishes. One can only hope that he’d include a recipe for his Peppa Pig cake, but we’re not holding our collective breath.
4. Now & Again: Go to Recipes, Inspired Menus + Endless Ideas for Reinventing Leftovers by Julia Turshen (September 4)
Julia Turshen is at it again with a new book for the thrifty-minded home cook who loves to entertain. With this book in your arsenal, you will never feel at a loss about what to do with leftovers ever again.
5. Skinnytaste One and Done by Gina Homolka (October 9)
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a home cook in possession of an Instant Pot must be in want of a cookbook filled with delicious ways to use it. The creator behind the wildly popular blog Skinnytaste took that idea and ran with it, including chapters on sheet pan, Dutch oven, skillet, slow cooker, and air fryer ideas for the calorie-minded cook.
6. Cravings: Hungry for More by Chrissy Teigen and Adeena Sussman (September 18)
Remember when Chrissy Teigen, on a quest to perfect her banana bread recipe, sourced six brown bananas from her Twitter followers (in exchange for a signed cookbook and pair of John Legend’s underwear)? Well, now you can get your hands on that mysterious banana bread recipe! Plus a whole lot more where that came from.
7. Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook by Dorie Greenspan (October 23)
Dorie returns with a cooking (not baking!) book this fall. We could all stand to cook a little more like Dorie Greenspan. She’s known for spicing up tired classics by mixing in surprise ingredients to make them feel a lot more special and make the expected unexpected. We’re particularly excited to see what Dorie “really” cooks day to day with this cookbook.
8. Israeli Soul: Easy, Essential, Delicious by Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook (October 16)
Are you noticing a theme here? (Because we are.) Legendary restaurant chefs like Solomonov of Zahav are making their recipes feel way more accessible to home cooks, and that’s huge. This one includes step-by-step how-to instructions and detailed close-ups of finished dishes so you can be sure that you’re on the right track.
9. The Complete Indian Instant Pot Cookbook by Chandra Ram (September 22)
Chandra Ram acknowledges that Indian cooking can seem intimidating, daunting, and time-consuming. Enter: the Instant Pot, the gadget that’s poised to reduce all of those barriers to entry. Make dried lentils or chickpeas without soaking them, rice in 10 minutes, and homemade yogurt sauce with ease. This book opens a whole new world of Instant Pot cooking. We can’t wait to take it for a spin!
10. Modern Baking by Donna Hay (October 23)
Make space on your cookbook shelf for the latest title from Donna Hay. No, seriously, make space — this book is over four pounds! Not so surprisingly, considering its whopping size, this cookbook is an ode to baking in every way, shape, and form and features over 250 recipes for all things sweet.
This cookbook is a little bittersweet because Donna Hay magazine announced that it was ending its partnership with News Corp in April. Donna Hay plans to launch its own publishing business and offer a magazine to subscribers. In the meantime, this baking tome will have to substitute.
