April is Earth Month, and there’s no more fitting time than now to search for the most sustainable, eco-friendly, and natural products to effectively use around the home. Cleaning our kitchens, specifically, requires cleaning products that are tough on grease, stains, stuck-on food, and all other kinds of stubborn residue. To make sure we got the best insights on which natural cleaning products to use in our kitchen, we asked Vanesa Amaro, professional housekeeper and TikTok’s “Queen of Cleaning,” to tell us her favorites.

“The kitchen is where you prepare everything for yourself, your family, and even pets, so it’s important to treat those surfaces with an extra level of care when it comes to choosing cleaning products,” Amaro says. “Multi-use cleaning products that can be used on a variety of surfaces are not only helpful in saving you money, but will also help minimize clutter.”

All of the following products are EPA Safer Choice Certified, meaning they meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s strict standards to be deemed safe for human health and the environment; and/or have an A rating from the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit organization that researches and advocates for safe ingredients in consumer products.

With any of these natural cleaning products, you can feel assured about using them in your kitchen not only throughout Earth Month, but also through the rest of the year.

For sparkling-clean hardwood floors, Amaro loves this Swiffer Wetjet starter kit. This convenient set comes with the beloved and durable Swiffer mop, 10 cleaning pads, a bottle of wood cleaning solution, plus batteries so you can keep your kitchen floors spotless. If you don’t have hardwood floors, you can opt for the Swiffer floor cleaners in the Dawn open window scent or Febreze lavender, both of which are compatible with Swiffer WetJet and have A ratings.

Dish soap is essential for cleaning dishes, but many are formulated with harsh ingredients, dyes, and synthetic fragrances that can cause sensitivities. Amaro loves the Puracy Dish Soap, particularly the green tea and lime scent made with essential oils because “It’s soft on skin, naturally derived, and it's concentrated to still give a powerful clean,” she says. It’s also available in a soothing lemongrass scent.

Kitchen surfaces, from countertops to the dining table, see an array of messes, crumbs, and spills. Amaro loves these wipes as a multi-purpose cleaner that are great for disinfecting surfaces throughout the kitchen and in every other room of your home. “My counters are where I do all my food prep, but it’s also the first place I drop off everything when I come home,” she says. “Whether it’s mail or leftover dog treats, I love having these wipes that are not only effective, but also safe around food and pets.”

It might feel near impossible to find a stovetop cleaner that isn’t formulated with harsh chemicals, so we really love this Everneat Soft Scrub formulated with plant-based ingredients. With a blend of natural ingredients such as sodium bicarbonate and citric acid, this scrub is powerful enough to remove grease and stuck-on food from your stovetop, but gentle enough to not leave behind any scratches. We also love that it comes in two revitalizing scents made with essential oils, plus one unscented option.

Stainless steel appliances are notorious for retaining fingerprints and smudges, making your kitchen look unkempt. We love the ECOS Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish because it contains cleaning agents derived from plants, and polishes while it cleans. It’s also safe to use on other surfaces such as chrome, aluminum, brass, copper, silver, and most metals. Use it to bring your appliances back to life and give them that sparkling shine.

From glass dining tables to kitchen windows, smudges keep your glass surfaces from sparkling like they should. Amaro recommends this concentrate, which can be added to a 15-ounce spray bottle filled with water for a natural yet powerful clean. It’s available in six scents, including a “free and clear” (unscented) option, but Amaro prefers orange and rosemary. “It’s the perfect scent leading up to warmer weather when you’re constantly opening and closing your windows and leaving fingerprints behind,” she says.

Branch Basics

While this concentrate is on the pricier side, Amaro loves it because a little bit goes a long way when cleaning just about anything throughout her home — but especially her oven. “I love that it’s fragrance-free so I don’t have to worry about any lingering scents when I’m cooking,” she says. For best results, dilute it with water following the brand’s dilution ratios for different uses so you can essentially replace all your cleaning products with one!
