This Handheld Vacuum Has Almost 10,000 5-Star Reviews — and It’s Perfect for Pet Parents
We’ve had pet hair on the brain a lot recently — seriously, it’s been a hot topic in the office. From traditional vacuums to hair remover tools, we’ve been researching tons of products that promise to keep your furry friend’s shedding at bay. One product that kept coming up, again and again, is this handheld vacuum from Bissell, and after investigating we discovered that it’s not just Kitchn and Apartment Therapy staffers who love it — it actually has almost 10,000 5-star reviews on Amazon.
It’s the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld Vacuum, and although it doesn’t look like much it’s actually a cleaning workhorse. It’s a great complementary tool to use in tandem with a regular vacuum, particularly on sofas, beds, and in cars. The key is the specially-designed rubber nozzle, which pulls up every hair and piece of dirt hiding in plain sight, and the multi-layer filtration system. It’s not cordless, but the cord itself is a whopping 16 feet long, so you can easily take it wherever it needs to go.
Like I said above, several Kitchn and AT staffers have used (and loved) this tiny Bissell. Elizabeth Entenman, Branded Content Editor, says she bought it because her dog sheds a ton and she had no choice but to vacuum every day. “So many vacuums are marketed as being good for pet hair and totally fall short, but this one actually gets the job done,” she says. “Like, for real. I wouldn’t lie to fellow dog parents.”
The biggest perk for her is its small size. “When you use something every day, you need it to be easily accessible. This one fits perfectly under the sink, in a closet, or in a cabinet. The small size somehow tricks me into vacuuming more, because it almost doesn’t feel like a chore.” And of course, “It’s also super affordable!”
Honestly, the low price does make it seem like it might be too good to be true. “I was a bit worried that it would suck (or wouldn’t suck I guess) since it’s pretty cheap and not necessarily a brand I would jump to for top quality vacuums,” said one Amazon reviewer. “I finally decided to take the leap and buy it anyway, and boy, am I glad I did.”
Said another customer: “I was skeptical that the rubber brush attachment was a good idea—wouldn’t it collect hair and resist the suction? Nope. This thing powers through couch hair. Often, only a single swipe is needed, which makes for a quick job. There was hardly any hair stuck to the brush—all of it ended up inside the dust container, which is super easy to detach, empty, and clean.”
According to many reviewers, the vacuum’s ease of use is what makes it a must-have. Like Elizabeth said above, when you’re vacuuming a specific small area at least once a day you don’t want to deal with the hassle of pulling out a large vacuum and figuring out the attachments. That’s why a handheld vacuum is such a great idea: You can grab it when you need it and store it away in no time.
And if you want to invest in a traditional vacuum, Bissell is well-known for their pet-friendly models. The Pet Hair Eraser Turbo is an upright vacuum that features the same technology as the handheld, but in a larger package, while the Bissell Robot Vacuum is another good companion option that you pretty much never have to think about.
