Amazon’s Bestselling Garlic Press Has More than 11,000 5-Star Reviews and Some Shoppers Say It’s “Perfect”
There are those who hate garlic presses and those who love ’em. And we are firmly in the latter camp. Because when you have to mince a lot of garlic or just simply do not want to use a knife for the task, there’s no better gadget. But some models are hard to use, requiring a surprising amount of strength to extract just one clove, and are tough to clean. And poorly designed presses tend to smash garlic rather than mince. Obviously, if you’re going to buy a garlic press, you want to buy a good one. Which brings us to this garlic press.
The OXO Good Grips Soft-Handled Garlic Press has more than 11,000 five-star reviews on Amazon. The press has a large garlic chamber that can hold more than one clove at a time and a comfortable, non-slip handle. You can even pop garlic in skin-on and it still does and impressive (ha!) job, mincing garlic with ease. It’s also dishwasher-safe and has a built-in cleaner that pushes out any excess garlic and skin.
What else is there to know? Let’s look at some of the five-star reviews to find out.
“I’ve tried several others and none compare. Super comfortable grip handle, good capacity for multiple cloves at once (or one giant one), and I LOVE that all I have to do to get the garlic skins out is simply flip the handle around and close it! It’s super easy to clean! However, I will advise hand washing it because the first few times I put it in my dishwasher I noticed the finish looked like it was starting to wear off. But, cleaning it is easy, as the flip side has that grid that pushes the skins out — I just rinse mine with soapy water and that usually does the trick.”
“I wasn’t sure if this would be worth the extra cost, but OXO has earned my trust so I bought it. More than one garlic clove fits in at a time and I far prefer it to trying to wash garlic off my hands from smashing/mincing. The handle doubles back on itself, giving better access for cleaning, and the rubber bumps press into the holes and get out leftover pulp! No more poking at it with toothpicks! I open it up and put it on the top rack of the dishwasher. So much better than the standard garlic presses, which got me through many years of cooking just fine, but wow, this one is nice.”
“This is literally the best garlic press I’ve ever used, and it’s the only one I’ve seen where the ‘basket’ part is made of one solid piece of metal. Other ones I’ve used had cracks along the sides of the basket so the garlic would squeeze through the sides when you pressed it. This one keeps all your garlic going through the holes at the bottom, and there’s no weird corners for the garlic skins to get stuck when cleaning.”
