You’ve probably heard us rave about Costco’s frozen food section before. It’s stocked with a lot of good stuff. Like really good. The produce! The dinner shortcuts! Did we mention the desserts? And even if you’re shopping for one (or two), the great thing about buying frozen foods in bulk is that you’ll likely get through them before they go bad. So if you’re weary about shopping in bulk, the freezer case is a great place to start.

These are the five frozen finds we’ve been buying on repeat this year (so far)!

1. Wanona Frozen Foods Festival Blend Mixed Fruit, $8 for 5 pounds

This bag is a real find! They went MIA during 2020 but they seem to be back now, so we recommend you stock up when you spot them. We suspect they’ll go surprisingly quickly in your house too. Each bag is filled with fresh fruit — pineapple, papaya, mango, and strawberries — that’s flash frozen to preserve flavor. This blend also makes for a refreshing snack on its own; in fact, we like to eat it straight out of the freezer.

2. Wyman’s Wild Blueberries, $8.99 for 3 pounds

Speaking of frozen fruit, our Executive Food Director, Nina Elder, eats frozen blueberries daily and says Wyman’s is superior to any other brand — worth the freezer space for a giant bag even during summer! They grow in a special part of Maine and are beloved for their flavor and sweetness.

3. Tattooed Chef Organic Riced Cauliflower Stir-Fry, $9.39 for 48 ounces

Are you a fan of dinner shortcuts? Same! This one comes recommended by one of our regular contributors who also happens to be a registered dietitian. Since she accidentally stumbled upon the riced cauliflower stir-fry, it’s become a staple in her freezer. It’s filling enough on its own, but it also makes a delicious base for cooked tofu, steamed edamame, grilled chicken, poached eggs, or any other quick (or leftover) protein. And it all comes together in less than 10 minutes!

4. Sister Shubert’s Dinner Yeast Rolls, $7.99 for 48 rolls

While essential for soup (or stew!), these rolls also pair well with warm-weather fare. Slice the pillowy-soft bread — which, like any great shortcut, is ready in 10 minutes — in half and stack with layers of meat and cheese for easy slider suppers. Or simply tear them into pieces and add eggs, nutty Gruyère cheese, and pancetta for a comforting make-ahead brunch. And if there’s any left over, try cutting them into cubes and making cheesy, peppery stovetop croutons. They add just the right crunch (and punch!) to your salads.

5. Mad Minis Vanilla Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches, $9.99 for 36

This past April we fell hard for this frozen dessert. In fact, if we had to recommend just one new thing for you to pick up at Costco, it would have to be these sweet little ice cream sandwiches. The vanilla ice cream is rich and creamy and it balances the crispy, crunchy chocolatey cookies in just the right way. (I’ve found other cookies in ice cream sandwiches to be too mushy.) We also like that they truly are mini, but still big enough to be satisfying on their own.
