Kitchn editors and writers spend a lot of time testing and writing about coffee makers, so it’s only obvious that we have a few favorites. And we’re not talking about just any coffee machine, but the tried-and-tested, can’t-live-without-them coffee makers we are truly obsessed with.

Our Lifestyle Director, Lisa, thinks the Technivorm Moccamaster is the best drip coffee maker, contrary to Wirecutter’s opinion. The main draw is that it doesn’t drip coffee onto the counter once the carafe is pulled out, and is easy to clean — two complaints Lisa had with her old drip coffee maker. It’s expensive but totally worth the investment if you can’t survive without your daily coffee.

If you’re a fan of the pour-over method, our writer Sharon Franke recommends the super budget-friendly Melitta. Simple and unfussy, the Melitta brews 10 cups and can be perched over a carafe or a mug depending on your needs. Sharon has perfected her own pour-over strategy through the years, and swears by this little workhorse for the ideal brew every time.

Our Lifestyle Director, Lisa, recently tested this ultra-popular cold brew maker and loved the results (it does have over 1,500 5-star reviews, after all). After letting it sit overnight in the fridge, the coffee tasted great and was free of errant grounds. Lisa remarked that she appreciated the glass design, as well as the reusable metal filter — and cleanup was super easy, too.

Our writer Sharon has another favorite, if you’re looking for a total upgrade: the Ninja Hot and Cold system. This beast can make both hot and cold coffee, as well as tea, and can brew everything from a single cup to a full 40-ounce carafe. It even includes a coffee scoop (with included storage spot!) and frother if you want to get fancy. Plus it’s a pretty compact size, considering all that it does.

Close your eyes and picture the coffee maker of your dreams. It’s probably shiny, eye-catching, beautiful — unless you’re our writer Geraldine Campbell. The coffee maker of Geraldine’s dreams is, in fact, the unassuming, under-$20 Mr. Coffee machine. It’s simple, programmable, and brews five cups, plus it’s totally unoffensive sitting on a counter. Don’t judge a book by its cover, indeed.

A seasoned traveler, our Commerce Director, Mark Marino, picked up this little espresso maker on a recent trip to Italy. Easy to use and even easier to store, the Fiammetta makes strong, piping-hot espresso in no time — and looks good doing it. Bialetti is a popular heritage brand, and really any of their espresso makers are a good bet.

Kitchn editors unanimously agree that KitchenAid’s Cold Brew machine is one of the best of the best. It’s reliable, easy to clean, and small enough to fit on a shelf in the fridge — plus the spigot allows you to dispense right out of the machine, no handling required.
