This Is the Least Amount of Money You Need to Spend to Get a Good Stand Mixer on Amazon

Believe it or not(Image credit: Joe Lingeman)

A KitchenAid stand mixer is the gold standard for stand mixers. And if you’ve got $280 to spend, it is our gear pro’s top pick. But you don’t need to break the bank in order to achieve cloud-like meringues or make from-scratch bread. If you’re not caught up in cachet (and you don’t need a million colors to choose from), you can save yourself a bundle and still get a great stand mixer for just $80.

For a fraction of the price, the Hamilton Beach 7-Speed Stand Mixer gets the job done as well as (and some would even argue better than) a KitchenAid. Here’s what to know about this affordable pick.

First, let’s talk about the basics: The Hamilton Beach 7-Speed Stand Mixer comes in black, silver, red, and metallic blue and has a handle on top so it’s comfortable to lift if you want to keep it in a cabinet or closet.

It comes with a 4-quart bowl (big enough to handle a few-dozen cookies, several pounds of mashed potatoes, and a couple loaves of bread) with handles on either side, and 3 dishwasher-safe attachments: whisk, flat beater, and dough hook.

It’s super easy to use — just tilt back the head, insert the attachment, lock in the bowl, and choose from one of seven speeds using the speed settings cheat sheet right on the top of the mixer. It’s large and super easy to read, so if you’ll never have to wonder which setting to use for folding in flour or creaming butter and sugar.

The only downside is that it takes slightly longer to get certain tasks done, like thickening cream or kneading bread dough — but we’re talking not more than two minutes and, after all, you’re not standing there holding the mixer the whole time.

Bottom line, this stand mixer is a solid choice for the home cook on a budget.
