Out of the many reasons to love Costco (the food court, the freebies, the frozen pizza), the bakery section is a clear favorite at The Kitchn. Earlier this spring, we even dubbed it the hottest bakery of 2023. From a new “dangerously delicious” pie to cherry and cheese breakfast pastries that double as dessert, these are the six best items we couldn’t wait to add to our carts.

1. Peanut Butter Chocolate Cream Pie, $19.99 for 4.5 pounds

We went to great lengths to get our hands on this “dangerously delicious” pie when it first hit the warehouse. (We even created a copycat version so we could make it ourselves whenever the mood strikes.) Weighing in at 4.5 pounds, the peanut butter chocolate cream pie is a showstopper, with a peanut butter filling that’s on par with the best no-bake pies.

2. Cinnamon Pull-Apart Rolls, $6.99 for 28 ounces

We said it then, and we’ll say it now: These cinnamon pull-apart rolls are the best $7 you’ll spend all week. The 12 hefty rolls are baked together in a cake pan for a fun cinnamon roll/monkey-bread hybrid. Half the fun is tearing apart the buttery-tender brioche dough. The other half, of course, was learning about this fan favorite’s return to shelves.

3. Lemon Blueberry Loaf, $8.99 per loaf

Cakes infused with lemon and studded with blueberry are among our favorite flavor combinations. So adding this lemon blueberry loaf to our must-try list was a no-brainer. The yellow cake is tasty and tender and studded with whole blueberries (most of which sank to the bottom of the loaf), while the powdered sugar glaze carries all of the lemon flavor. So make sure to savor every iced bite.

4. Mini Red Velvet Cakes, $9.99 for 6 cakes

These mini red velvet cakes are larger than a standard cupcake and smaller than a layer cake, which makes them the perfect size for sharing with your plus one. The red cake is light, fluffy, and covered in a swirl of Costco’s sweet cream cheese frosting.

5. Mini Carrot Cakes, $9.99 for 6 cakes

Like clockwork, these mini carrot cakes reappear at Costco come spring — and members can’t get enough of them. Similar to this chocolatey version and its deeper-hued cousin above, they’re big enough to share with someone. The moist and spicy carrot base is flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg and is studded with walnut and raisins (a polarizing ingredient, but perfect in these!). The adorable carrot-topped cream cheese frosting really nails the theme.

6. Cherry and Cheese Pastry, $9.99 for 6

Another new pastry find we spotted in the bakery section, Costco’s twist on the typical strudel is stuffed with sweet red cherries and a cream cheese filling. So it’s basically cherry cheesecake, but for breakfast! Warm these up in the air fryer for a few minutes and they’ll go just as well with coffee in the morning or a scoop of vanilla ice cream at night.
