I Tried TikTok’s “Adult Lunchable” Trend and Found My New Favorite Work Lunchbox in the Process
I don’t know about you, but I love packing my lunch. Not only is it cost-effective (lunch in New York City doesn’t come cheap, folks), but it also gives me peace of mind as I know exactly what I’m eating. This is not to say I don’t indulge in the occasional street cart gyro (I’m only human, after all), but nine times out of 10, you’ll find me brown-bagging it to work. Because of this, I’ve long been on the hunt for the perfect lunchbox and reader, I finally found it: the Bentgo Modern Bento-Style Lunch Box. And, like many products I picked up this year, I have TikTok to thank for this find.
I love scrolling through TikTok in search of fun lunch ideas, and a couple of weeks ago I came across a viral video from content creator Marianna Moore where she breaks down her “Adult Lunchable” lunch concept. The idea is simple: Use a bento-style lunchbox to create a hearty and filling lunch made up of foods that hit all the major areas you need to keep you satiated throughout the day, including fruit, vegetables, and a little something sweet. Intrigued, I decided to put it to the test, but as I was lacking in the bento box department, I also decided to put her pick to the test — and I can honestly say I haven’t been this excited about lunch since I was a kid.
What is the Bentgo Modern Bento-Style Lunch Box?
While I’m not new to the idea of a bento box, the Bentgo Modern Bento-Style Lunch Box is not the bento box I grew up with. The ones I used growing up were metallic, always leaking, and (more often than not) unsightly. This one, however, is different. First of all, it’s striking. At first glance, it’s hard not to “ooh” and “ah” over it with its gorgeous colorways (it comes in five sleek hues) and gold accented latch. But this is certainly not a case of style over substance. Featuring a removable inner compartment made of food-grade materials, adjustable dividers so you can customize your setup, and a leak-resistant seal that hugs the removable food tray to avoid spills, it’s hard to find a fault with this lunch box.
Why I Love the Bentgo Modern Bento-Style Lunch Box
As I waited for this lunch box to be delivered, I found myself in one of those moments of adulthood that left me thinking, “I can’t believe I’m this excited to get a lunch box.” But I was, and I was not disappointed. The first big plus for me was just how much food I could fit in it. For my first “Adult Lunchable” I opted for a fun mix of veggies, crackers, cheese, sliced turkey, a bean salad, an apple, and yogurt and I’ll admit it — I had fun putting together my lunch! Now came the real test: would it live up to its leakproof claims? Well, not only did I make it work with my tote intact, my lunch barely shifted, something that resulted in me letting out a “wow” as I opened it. As I sat there, enjoying my lunch I knew I had found my new go-to.
The Bentgo Modern Bento-Style Lunch Box comes in at $35, which while definitely an investment, it’s a worthwhile one for something this functional and stylish. Suffice it to say, I’ll be enjoying a good “Adult Lunchable” for the foreseeable future and have been fully converted to team #BentoOrBust.
