Before & After: After 10 Years This Kitchen Got a DIY Makeover
After 10 years of living in their house, Cristina decided it was time for a change in the kitchen, which she documented on her blog, Remodelando la Casa. An avid DIY-er (with a somewhat reluctant husband), Cristina decided to tackle the upgrade on her own. Her goal was to give the space a fresher, more contemporary look and feel.
Mission accomplished! Take a look at Cristina’s kitchen now.
Can you believe this was all DIY? Cristina made a lot of updates to the kitchen that she details one by one on her blog, showing the process and challenges of each project.
The cabinets went from honey-brown to white, and Cristina added molding to the top to close off the dust-collecting space up top. She also built a custom enclosure for her new refrigerator and the cover for the hood over the new stove.
Next up she made some changes to the sink area. In addition to replacing the countertops, sink, and fixtures, Cristina freed up some counter space by moving her microwave off the counter and into the side of her kitchen island.
We also love the fact that Cristina painted her island to contrast with the rest of the cabinets. It serves as an anchor in the space and prevents the space from just being too white-washed.
A few final details finished off Cristina’s remodel. She turned one of the cabinets into open shelving to display some of her prettier serving pieces, and added a plate rack to keep her dishes easily accessible. She also replaced the backsplash with gray marble in a subway tile-inspired pattern, but with more variations.
