We love a cheap makeover — especially when it turns out as wonderfully as this one did. We couldn’t believe that the total remodel cost less than $400. It’s further proof that you can save a lot by doing it all yourself.

Take a look at the kitchen now! Doesn’t it look great? We love how fresh and spacious it looks, and we never would have guessed that it cost so little. But even more impressive might be that they did the whole remodel in just two weeks.

The white cabinets make a huge difference in how spacious the kitchen looks, but this renovation took a lot more work than just repainting the cabinets to get it looking like this.

Shelly, who writes the blog Minette’s Maze, chronicled the transformation of her kitchen to show just how much DIY work was involved. Not only did they take out cabinets and rearrange them, they also refinished the floors and moved the appliances to a single wall to create more counter space. But the biggest challenge was definitely moving the kitchen wall and creating a larger cooking and eating space.

The final project we love and want to spotlight is the backsplash Shelly created. Because aluminum tile wasn’t in her budget, Shelly instead chose to use paintable wallpaper, which she put a hammered finish on to give it the look of aluminum tile, but for a much lower cost.

The makeover looks great, Shelly! Thanks for sharing it with us!
