Before & After: A Warm White Makeover for $8,000
We’re pretty sure this could have been one of the neighbor’s kitchens (minus the modern appliances) in an episode of Mad Men. But as charming as the wood paneling might have been in the 1960s it doesn’t fit most modern ideas of a bright, warm cooking space.
Like many readers of The Kitchn, Tatiana decided to give this space a bright, white makeover and add a little bit more space. Take a look at how it turned out — pretty impressive!
While the layout might be the same, there are a lot of changes in this kitchen makeover. To start, Tatiana decided to sacrifice the dining room in order to get more counter and cooking space. She shifted the peninsula counter to add more counter space next to the sink.
Once the layout was done, the wood cabinets were stripped of their many layers of varnish, which ended up being a pain according to Tatiana.
All the appliances and flooring were replaced as well, which really brought the kitchen up to date. Tatiana estimates that the remodel cost around $8,000 total. And we think it was worth every penny.
