You’ve Been Storing Bacon Wrong Your Entire Life (This “Brilliant” Tip Proves It)

I love bacon. I mean honestly, who doesn’t? A cheesy omelet on a weekend morning with a side of crispy bacon? Or a waffle with crispy bacon and maple syrup drizzled on top? Really, it can’t get any better than that. However, I don’t go through an entire package in one sitting and find storing bacon to kind of be a hassle. That was until I discovered this absolutely ingenious way to store bacon.

In a video, TikTok user @the_gooch shared a brilliant bacon storage hack that I’m honestly shocked I haven’t seen before. It makes storing leftover bacon even easier and also makes for an easy prep for that bacon as well! All you need is a pair of kitchen shears.

Here’s how it works: Using a pair of clean kitchen shears, cut down the center of your package of bacon. Not only does this easily cut all of your slices of bacon in half, but it also makes for easy storage. Remove the plastic on the half of your cut bacon that you plan on cooking, then use that plastic to cover the other half of your bacon. Simply nestle the other packaged half into the package so the cut side is now covered, then voilà! Easily stored bacon that could go back in the fridge — or the freezer.

Keep in mind that this trick will likely only work well with defrosted bacon. Bacon that is semi-defrosted might still work, but slicing it would be even harder. So I recommend slicing it when you decide to cook it, then store the second half of your bacon slices however you choose.
