Growing up with Caribbean heritage, one of my most dearest drinks to enjoy is an iced cold, crisp rum and coke. It’s a foolproof cocktail, and if you take it a tiny step forward by adding a simple spritz of lime, you’ll boost the already delicious flavor of this libation with bright and zesty notes. If you can’t get enough of this swizzle, you’ll be glad to learn that Coca-Cola and Bacardi are teaming up to release a canned version

On September 17, Bacardi shared a press release detailing the specifics of this legendary drop. The 355-milliliter canned cocktail will be available in several markets worldwide starting in 2025.

The two brands worked together back in the day, so it’s not their first collaboration. In 1900, the Cuba Libre cocktail was invented using Bacardi rum, Coca-Cola, and lime at the American Bar in Havana, Cuba states the press release.

The canned cocktail mixed with rum and Coca-Cola will have a 5.9% alcohol by volume (ABV), but in certain markets, this amount may vary, and clear labels will state this.

“We are continuing to develop our portfolio as a total beverage company, including in the growing alcohol ready-to-drink market,” James Quincey, the chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Co., said in the press release. “This new relationship with Bacardi Limited supports our strategic expansion, and we look forward to the introduction of BACARDI Mixed with Coca-Cola next year.”

While the canned cocktail’s launch is currently scheduled for select European markets and Mexico, The Kitchn reached out to the Coca-Cola team to inquire about any plans for a release in the U.S.

“We are evaluating a U.S. launch for 2025,” says a spokesperson from Coca-Cola. For now, there aren’t any official plans for a date of this release, but stay tuned because this ready-to-drink rum and coke may soon be available in a fridge near you — I’m personally counting down the days!
