Avocados are delicious. Chocolate is also delicious. But do they belong together? Apparently so. A hybrid treat featuring both ingredients — an avocado chocolate bar — finally exists as a result of a collaboration between Compartes chocolatier and the California Avocado Commission.

All the avocados used in the chocolate bar are locally sourced from farmers markets to guarantee they are fresh, organic, and sustainable. The chocolate used in this bar is white chocolate.

If the merger between avocado and chocolate sounds random, think again! Avocado and chocolate have often been paired in smoothies, and the fatty fruit is also an ingredient for desserts (like mousse and pudding) to add a rich, creamy texture. Adding avocado to a bar of white chocolate would only balance out the sweet chocolate in terms of flavor by adding the more subdued taste of the avocado.

While the bar contains avocado, it shouldn’t be mistaken for a healthy treat. The bar is primarily white chocolate, so it’s bound to have a bit of sugar. And white chocolate does not have the antioxidant properties that dark chocolate offers. It’s no replacement for a standalone avocado in terms of nutrition, but it’s definitely a great way to indulge in a sweet treat whether it be dessert or a snack.

You can head over to the Compartés brick-and-mortar store in Los Angeles to grab the chocolate avocado bar, or buy one online.
