Here’s How Ina Garten Throws a Last-Minute Party in 10 Minutes
Everybody’s been there: all of a sudden, through whatever series of events, you figure out you need to host a gathering at a time where you’re in a major time crunch. For most of us, that means a lot of panicking. But Ina, of course, doesn’t need to do any such thing. Instead, she whips up a quick party, takes a few stunning photo, and then posts on Instagram how fabulous it was. If we didn’t love her, we’d hate her.

Mark Bittman is back — back in food journalism, that is, after a stint in meal kits and a new cookbook. But it’s not going well. Bittman of course is one of the bestselling, best-known, and most-followed cooking experts of our time. He wrote the Minimalist recipe column for the New York Times for 13 years, and then moved on to an op-ed spot.

Now Is Your Chance to Binge-Watch Julia Child’s “The French Chef”
Julia Child was the original television cooking teacher — the one who taught us what it meant to stand and stir, the one who demonstrated that cookbooks could come to life on the screen, and the one who inspired us to invest our TV time in timbales and tarts. And now, thanks to a new Amazon and PBS arrangement, you can binge watch all 10 full seasons, spanning from 1963 to 1973 of her show, The French Chef with Julia Child. Is there a catch? Yes, of course there is.

There are not enough words in the world to describe just how good at Twitter Chrissy Teigen is. Which is impressive when you also consider how good she is at cookbook writing, too. So when she asked her nearly 11 million followers to respond to her tweet with a thread of “simple, underrated pleasures,” she got so many great ones. It’s a little like real-life ASMR — things that just relax you by thinking about how great they are and send a tingle of joy down your spine.

Ina Garten Went Day Drinking with Seth Meyers and We’re Jealous
Last night on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host got to live the dream: he spent an afternoon day-drinking with the Barefoot Contessa herself. Seth gets drunk (or, at least, stage drunk), and Ina remains her composed, lovely self while crushing Seth at the drinking games he challenges her to and dropping info like what her favorite cocktail is.

Or, the actress who played her, Angela Kinsey, does — and it is completely and totally delightful. While Angela, the character on The Office, was sort of awkward and strange, Kinsey turns out to be a completely socially functional human being. In fact, she’s hilarious.

This Brown Rice and Mushroom Bake Is the Coziest Dinner
Kitchn’s Delicious Links column highlights recipes we’re excited about from the bloggers we love. Follow along every weekday as we post our favorites. Okay, we can’t help but agree that the words “vegetarian loaf” don’t sound very sexy, which is how the blog Things I Made Today opens their post about this dish. But when you’re making something that tastes this delicious, looks don’t really matter.

This Might Be the Best Christmas Prank We’ve Ever Seen
The best parts about spending the holidays with your family are the long evenings sipping cocoa, catching up on each other’s lives, and also getting to mess with the people you know best. Sure, the occasional prank on a friend is good for a few laughs, but playing a prank on your family means you know exactly how to really get to them — and you’re pretty much assured forgiveness. (Unless you cross the line. Don’t cross the line.

You Need This Creamy Dijon Chicken for Dinner Tonight
If you go for a walk in Seattle, where I live, it’s hard not to notice the occasional whiff of rosemary as you pass certain houses. The herb grows like a weed around here, and that means that a quick jaunt to pick up the kids at daycare can quickly turn into a dinner craving: what can we make that will weave that lovely scent in, but never let it overpower? Natasha at Salt and Lavender has just the answer with her creamy Dijon rosemary chicken.

You Need to See Nigella’s (Almost) Edible Christmas Wreath
Forget decking the halls with boughs of holly, Nigella Lawson has a new direction for her decorating scheme — and it’s a little more… vegetal. That’s right, the domestic goddess herself has posted a photo of her wreath on Instagram, and it’s studded with Brussels sprouts (!!!). Or, fake Brussels sprouts, at least. “And the Christmas wreath is now in place,” she announced on Instagram.

Hot Debate: What Do You Call the End of a Loaf of Bread?
Everybody knows that feeling of dread — when you pick up the loaf of bread and the only thing left are the ends. Those pieces, which have the crust all over one side, rather than just on the edges, are the ugly stepchild of the bread industry. Long after most of us have outgrown wanting the crusts cut off our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, we still don’t want to touch those end pieces — the balance of crust to insides is simply off, we can all agree on that.

The Dirtiest Thing on a Restaurant Table Is Not What You Think
When you head to a restaurant this time of year, you’re probably in search of a nice meal, a pleasant evening, and maybe a festive cocktail or two. You’re probably not heading out in search of a cold to catch. But it’s the season of germs everywhere, and ABC News set out to find where those germs lurk in restaurants around the country — and it may make you rethink using the salt and pepper shaker.

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Is Back and Tastier than Ever
For fans of the Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the quick, witty dialogue and striking retro sets are the main draw, but the classic New York and Jewish food fall right behind. In the first season, Midge, played by Rachel Brosnahan, brings her brisket to bars to bribe her husband’s way onto stage and jokes at her own Jewish wedding about there being shrimp in the egg rolls. In fact, we theorized that the entire show is secretly about the power of cooking.

Here’s All the Free Food You Can Get on Black Friday
Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and basically everything between Thanksgiving and Christmas seem to be about spending money — even the best of sales requires a little bit of cash on hand. But there’s a saving grace hidden among the spend, spend, spend mentality, and it’s the thing that will keep you sane as you rush from store to store looking for the cheapest stand mixer and the best deal on an Instant Pot: free food.

José Andrés Fell for the Turkey-in-the-Microwave Prank
“How long does it take to microwave a 25lb turkey?” Carlota Andrés messaged to the family WhatsApp. Her famous father, chef, and humanitarian José Andrés, responded, aghast, in a mixture of English and Spanish that encompasses a horror perhaps not able to be contained in just one language. In fact, the younger Andrés was simply enacting the same prank that other young adults around the country have been all week.

The Most Popular Thanksgiving Recipes in Every State, According to Google
It turns out that Thanksgiving dinner can be pretty divisive. Sure, it’s based around turkey, but should you brine it, stuff it, sous vide it, or make gravy from it? Do the cranberries go in relish, salad, or sauce? Is it dressing or stuffing, and is there cornbread involved? Where do the green beans, sweet potatoes, and squash fit in?

But every once in a while, we come across a dish that fits perfectly for a late-fall evening. This one is full of quinoa, cheese, and broccoli — and it cooks in a single pot to boot.

Here’s What the Costco Food Court Looks Like in Iceland
For a country where winter temperatures hover around freezing, the menu of the Costco food court in Iceland is surprisingly full of cold treats. The small menu, posted on Reddit by user AMIGOvalueshopper, offers just a half-dozen options — three of which are frozen. Costco is new in Iceland, having just opened for the first time last year. The bulk-buy paradise has taken the country by storm — getting locals excited and adding 40% increase in cargo flights to the small country.

The Most Heated Debate on Twitter Right Now Is About Fried Potatoes
Chips, fries, crisps: What’s in a name? Twitter got into a tizzy yesterday as people around the world discussed the nomenclature of various fried potato snacks. The argument kicked off when British user @BlueBernardo tweeted three photos, which he identified as chips, fries, and crisps, respectively, and “anything else is wrong,” opening up a giant-bag-of-potato-chips-sized controversy.

Sam’s Club’s New Chicken Nuggets Taste Just Like Chick-fil-A
It used to be when you wanted a very particular hand-breaded, all-breast meat chicken nugget flecked with hints of dill and pepper, you had to put on pants. Unless it was a Sunday, in which case you had to wait an entire day, and then put on pants. Or if you lived outside the South, where Chick-fil-A locations are fewer and further between, you might even need to plan a trip to one or stand in line (sometimes hours long when new locations open).

Mexico City Is the Most Unsung Food Vacation
For most of U.S. history, Paris reigned as the food-vacation Mecca. To get your gourmet cred, to validate your thoughts on bread and fine dining, you had to have spent time at the bistros of Saint Germain and wandered the alleys of the Marais. But it’s high time to put that myth to rest, chuck the Euro-centric view of food, and realize that the best food vacation destination is closer and cheaper than France. I’m talking about Mexico City.
