I’ve Used This All-Natural Amazon Find for Years to Magically Eliminate Fruit Flies in My Kitchen
Summer is finally here, and while it’s mostly all fun and games, there’s one major thing I dread: fruit flies. Sure enough, the second it hit over 80 degrees in New York City, these pesky bugs instantly swarmed my humid kitchen. So, just like clockwork, I pulled out the one and only solution that takes care of these annoying insects almost instantly. Ever since I moved to New York, I’ve been using Aunt Fannie’s Non-Toxic FlyPunch to eliminate fruit flies in my kitchen, and nothing else holds a candle to it. It’s basically magic!
Without this all-natural fruit fly trap, I honestly don’t know how I’d survive the summer. I’ve only had this food-safe solution out for two weeks this year, and it’s attracted an impressive (er, disgusting?) number of insects already. I won’t lie: It’s equally satisfying and gross to see its natural powers in action floating at the bottom of the container. With that said, it’s definitely not for the faint of heart, and you may need to find a more hidden solution if seeing the dead bugs gives you the ick. But let me tell you: No other bug solution compares, and it’s worth the somewhat unsightly appearance!
Aunt Fannie’s FlyPunch is vinegar-based (so long, harsh chemicals!), which you’ll be able to detect the second you open the bottle. I actually love the smell of vinegar — I associate the smell with cleaning — so I don’t mind it. However, I will warn you it can be a bit pungent at first. After a couple days, though, you’ll barely even notice the scent.
You can place it just about anywhere in your kitchen (on top of the fridge or your cabinets, for example), but I place the container right by my fruit bowl to stop the bugs right in their tracks. Because it’s safe around food, I have total peace of mind keeping it directly next to my apples and bananas.
Each bottle lasts around 30 days, so I recommend grabbing at least a three-pack on Amazon so you’re stocked for the hottest summer months (that’s what I did!). It can’t hurt that you’ll also save a couple dollars getting the bundle, too.
There are a variety of insect solutions we love at The Kitchn, but if you’re specifically looking for one that’ll take care of fruit flies in your kitchen — minus the harsh chemicals (without sacrificing efficacy) — nothing beats Aunt Fannie’s FlyPunch. The second you open the bottle, I guarantee you’ll wish you had discovered this little lifesaver sooner!
