August Food Magazine Roundup: Gourmet and Saveur

The August issue of Gourmet is all about classic American summer food, including the summer burger and a seaside feast. They look at mackerel, great ice cream from across the country, and purple plums, and finish it all off with no-cook hors d'oeuvres.

Their ten-minute recipes include Shrimp, Celery, and White-Bean Salad and Lamb Chops with Roasted-Eggplant Relish. This is a great issue, with food that is whetting our appetite just writing about it. Read on for web exclusives from this month's issue...

The August/September issue of Saveur has lovely photos from all over the world. Our favorite piece was a set of photographs and an essay on a family of Hmong immigrants in central California growing gorgeous produce like basil and lemongrass.

They also feature Russian food and hospitality (groaning tables are the standard) and give a great overview of avocados. We never knew there were so many varieties! Most of Saveur is subscription only, and it's worth it for the inspiration from around the world.
