One of my biggest fears is spilling red wine on my living room carpet, and I know I am not alone. I am not exactly the most graceful person, and even the slightest misstep could lead to a complete disaster. There are no easy solutions to this problem (these spill-proof glasses that we sometimes use are only really effective on flat surfaces) especially if you like to bring your beverage along with you to the couch. Whether it’s coffee, wine, or soda, you’re always playing a high-stakes game of “let me drink this as carefully as possible so I don’t ruin my furniture.”

But there is one way to lower your chances of an accident: You can literally strap your drink down with the CouchCoaster.

This nifty little uni-tasker fits securely on the arm of your sofa, and holds your glass or mug snuggly inside the cup holder. It can’t be knocked over by a rambunctious cat or an unwieldy limb looking for the remote. If you don’t have an end table (or you want to get rid of the one that’s taking up space in your living room) and precariously balancing your cup between your knees isn’t working, the CouchCoaster might be your holy grail.

According to the Amazon reviews, the CouchCoaster works with a stemless wine glass, and on flat surfaces too, which might be useful if your pets like to knock things over on the counter or dining room table. Reviewers also promise that it’s “worth it,” “works brilliantly,” and makes a great gift.

I know, I know, uni-taskers usually get stuffed into a cabinet and forgotten about (just ask Alton Brown) but if there’s a gadget out there that can prevent my clumsy self from spilling an entire drink on the couch (it’s happened before, and it’s bound to happen again) then it has my blessing.
