Last week Joseph Lamour wrote about the two-year-long Twitter debate going on to define this cold-weather favorite. Is it the dish it’s served in, or is the stuff in the dish what really matters? Joseph concluded a casserole is really more of a vibe thing.

Here’s How to Get Krispy Kreme’s New Doughnut-Flavored Coffee for Free Today
Plenty of places have coffee-flavored doughnuts, but Krispy Kreme just decided to turn it all upside down and come out with doughnut-flavored coffee. Now everything is topsy-turvy and coffee-flavored, and I don’t know which is supposed to be dunked in which anymore: the coffee or the doughnut? (I probably just need some more coffee.) “Our coffee is going doughnuts, and our doughnuts are going coffee!” Krispy Kreme said in a statement.

Meal Prep Plan: A Week of Easy Healthy Meals for Two
My meal prep routine varies week to week depending on how much free time I have on Sundays. But I’ve learned that even on weekends where I only have one hour, there’s a lot I can accomplish. When time is limited, I maximize my efforts by leaning on recipes and ingredients that require minimal prep and little to no hands-on cooking — allowing me to prep multiple things at once.

Smoky Fall Squash Mac & Cheese You Can Make in Minutes
A cheesy baked pasta dish studded with bacon is a dream meal for sure, but rich comfort food like that doesn’t make its way onto every week’s meal plan. Between the heavy prep before and the “too full” feeling a rich meal leaves after, it’s definitely a special-occasion dish. Fortunately, with a little help from the store and a quick roasting of some fresh veggies, you can make the easy everyday comfort food you crave.

Recipe: Chrissy Teigen’s 3-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse
This fast and fancy dessert is the recipe you didn’t know your life was missing. Chocolate mousse, unlike cookies or brownies, is all too often considered a fussy restaurant-only recipe, but Chrissy Teigen proves it’s just the opposite. The mousse is easy enough to make any day of the week, and the crispy-rice-cereal-meets-lux-hazelnut-crackle makes this recipe extra special.

Kitchn’s Delicious Links column highlights recipes we’re excited about from the bloggers we love. Follow along every weekday as we post our favorites. Can we have an honest discussion about chicken? 7 Things Super-Healthy People Do at Home That You Don’t
Being healthy can feel like a chore. You think that you have to cook special food or try trendy fitness classes to achieve any healthy goals, but when I talked to some really healthy individuals — from the founder of Whole30 to a sleep doctor — none of them brought up any scary so-called-superfoods or intense workout routines. Turns out being healthy is just about making a few very simple, but very good, choices.

One of Our Favorite Apron Designers Now Makes Kitchen Shoes
When I’m planning a serious cooking day, there are two things I need besides all the ingredients and kitchen tools: A good apron and sturdy shoes. And one of my favorite apron brands, Hedley & Bennett, just announced that they are getting into the shoe game. Yes, really! The stylish and practical apron brand teamed up with Vans to create the most colorful kitchen shoes on the planet and I’m kind of already obsessed with them. These soles have soul.

A Woman Accidentally Returned Her Life Savings with a Costco Freezer
Costco has been the site of many terrible returns. The bulk warehouse’s famously generous return policy has led many people to take things too far and return old mattresses, dirty kitty litter, and even empty bottles of alcohol. But one Colorado woman is extremely upset over what might be the most unfortunate Costco return ever, after she lost upwards of $35,000 in cash after she put her money in the freezer for safekeeping, and then accidentally returned the freezer to the store.

You Should Vacuum with a Paper Towel Tube — Here’s Why
I love my vacuums. Yes, we have two: A Dyson small ball (the big ones are way too heavy for me to vacuum with comfortably, and was definitely too heavy for me to carry up and down the stairs when we lived in a two-story house) and a cordless that was a (requested) Mother’s Day present that has for real changed my everyday life.

We Had No Idea This Everyday Kitchen Tool Was a Legit Design Icon
If you’ve been to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in midtown Manhattan, you’ve probably marveled at its permanent collection, which includes some of the most iconic and immediately recognizable works, ever — there’s the melting clocks of Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory, the soft-focus pastels of Claude Monet’s massive Water Lilies triptych, and everyone’s go-to poster from their freshman year, Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night.

3 Smart Tips That’ll Make Unloading the Dishwasher Way Easier
In my experience, there are two kinds of dishwasher users: people who have figured out the right way to load the dishwasher, and people who really don’t care. Also in my experience, those two camps of people tend to marry each other and spend the rest of their lives complaining about the other’s method of loading or critiquing the other’s loading technique (sorry, husband of mine).

You’re Handling Your Aluminum Can Lids All Wrong
If you’re conscientious about recycling, the instinct is to try to put every component of every recylable object into the recycling bin. But in researching the subject over the years, I’ve learned something surprising: Some items, even though they’re recyclable, can actually become a hazard in recycling centers.

Twitter User Demands Answers to Definition of a Casserole
What constitutes a casserole? Is it the dish itself, or what it contains? Is it both? Dictionary.com defines a casserole as two things: a baking dish of glass or pottery, usually with a cover, and also any food (usually a mixture) cooked in such a dish. For all intents and purposes, defining this around-the-world staple is a bit like asking Which came first: the chicken or the egg?

Meal Prep Plan: A Week of Easy Breakfasts & Lunches for 4
Meal planning is my mom superpower, but meal prep has never been my thing. As a mom of two, I find most of my weekend time gets gobbled up by soccer games, laundry, and epic LEGO tower building. But having a fridge stocked with at least a few prepped meals makes me a more peaceful, kinder mom come Monday morning. In an effort to make the most of any free weekend time I do have, I focus on breakfast and lunch, which tend to muck up my mornings most.

4 Ingenious Ways You Should Be Using Instant Potato Flakes
Instant potato flakes aren’t exactly high on most lists of pantry essentials. You may keep them around in chilly months as a quick and easy shortcut to creamy mashed potatoes, but they’re probably more likely collecting dust on supermarket shelves. What you might not know, though, is that these little flakes — made most often from either russet potatoes or Yukon Golds that have been cooked, mashed, and dehydrated — can work their magic in a surprising amount of dishes.

The Best Money-Saving Grocery Shopping Tips, According to My Mom
I grew up in a household that normalized semi-extreme coupon clipping. The level of bargain hunting that I was taught was not extreme enough to deserve a TLC special, but sustainable enough to form life-long habits. Over the years, my mom has expertly honed her ritual of scanning the inserts in the Sunday paper and gingerly snipping (only relevant!) coupons for any upcoming grocery hauls.

There’s No Way This Slow Cooker Full English Breakfast Is an Improvement
During everyone’s most-and-least favorite holiday movie, Love, Actually, Prime Minister Hugh Grant lists all of the reasons why he thinks Great Britain deserves that first part of its name: “We may be a small country, but we’re a great one, too,” he said. “The country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter. It Takes Longer to Audition for The Great British Bake Off than It Does to Film the Season
If you watch U.K. mainstay The Great British Bake Off, the reality competition where 10 amateur bakers duke it out to be crowned best baker in the land, there comes a moment where a tiny part of your brain tells you “maybe I could do this.” This usually happens when one of the 10 contestants makes a rookie mistake and confuses a stroopwafel for a caramel cookie during a technical challenge.

An Easy Way to Add Natural Fragrance to Your Home
I really dislike artificial fragrances, especially those plug-in types of air fresheners that are full of chemicals. Give me essential oils any day. However, many of the nicer reed diffusers are also pretty pricey. Paying $20 or $30 for a store-bought one seems rather silly when many of us have the raw materials to make our own lying around the house. Here’s how to DIY a reed diffuser for a hit of natural aromatherapy at home.

Over 100,000 Pounds of Ground Beef May Be Contaminated by E.coli
Carnivores should be on high alert: A meat supplier for many grocery stores including Publix has decided to recall over 132,000 pounds of ground beef due to E. coli concerns. The trouble began last month, when Publix stores in Florida announced that it would be pulling beef products made from ground chuck from shelves after 18 people became ill. Cargill Meat Solutions, the supplier in question, is now taking extra precautions to make sure that no one else gets sick.

Sorry, but There’s No Such Thing as the “Clean Part” of Moldy Bread
We’ve all been through this scenario: You get hungry, stroll over to the kitchen, and decide you’ll make the perfect sandwich, layered with your favorite deli meat (or veggies), a slice of lettuce, some tomato, a dab of mayonnaise (which is not dead for this millennial), all in between your favorite sliced bread. But what do you do if you pull out a packaged loaf and discover it has a teeny little bit of mold at the top?

Why It’s Time to Replace All the Dish Towels in Your Drawer
Do you remember the date that Kate Middleton and Prince William got married? I do, because my friend Marnie (hi, Marnie!) sent me a commemorative dish towel all the way from London to celebrate the occasion (which happened on April 29, 2011, if you don’t remember). I have a somewhat large collection of dish towels; ones I’ve gotten as gifts, or bought myself, or props I’ve taken home after photoshoots.

Alton Brown Shares the Release Date for “Good Eats: Reloaded”
For over a year now there have been rumors and hints about what Alton Brown is working on next. Last year he teased something out on Instagram about “Return of the Eats,” which we now know is coming to the Food Network in 2019. Then this summer we heard he was working on “remixing” some classic episodes of Good Eats, but the news was relatively sparse. Is the show really coming back? Meal Prep Plan: A Week of Easy Meals for 2
Although I’m fairly new to meal prepping, it didn’t take me long to get into the groove. I discovered that while I like having some sort of rough framework for what I’m going to eat during the week, I also need some flexibility. Since I’m only cooking for myself and my husband, we have the luxury of cooking somewhat spontaneously on weeknights, which makes our busy weeks more fun and enjoyable.

VeggiChop Hand-Powered Food Chopper from Chef’n
I’ve talked about this little chopper before, but I wanted to return to it as it has a relatively new and improved design. I really love this chopper. It doesn’t need any electricity, and pulling the cord to make the blades go is actually rather fun. It is wonderful for chopping nuts and herbs and making pesto, sauces, and salsa. It doesn’t mash vegetables to pulp the way higher powered food processors do. I really do use this more frequently than any other food processor.

But probably the biggest takeaway from my month on Whole30 was that the key to sticking with it comes down to meal prep.

This Company Wants You to Take a Roast Beef-Scented Bath
There are few greater joys after a long, stressful day than getting home, queueing up a bit of relaxing music, lighting a few candles, and settling in to a freshly drawn, piping-hot bath. Twitter Is Losing Its Collective Mind Over How This Man Stirs Tea
People who like to cook are secretly (culinary) scientists. So much so that I think that we should be included in the STEM category, because cooking involves extensive knowledge of all four fields: science, technology, engineering, and math. Why do you think we call people who make the best cocktails mixologists?

The Best Small-Space Cleaning Advice, According to People Who Live in Tiny Homes
The logic should make sense: smaller spaces are easier to clean, right? In reality, small spaces, and even tiny houses, come with their own set of cleaning challenges. If you convert a trailer into a tiny house, you can expect plenty of dirt, grass, and leaves to be tracked in — 300 square feet likely doesn’t allow for a mudroom. Because every inch is utilized in a tiny house, that means each surface is prone to messes.
