I Visited the Rosé Mansion and Literally Swung from a Chandelier
More than I care to admit, I’ve consumed a lot of things for the sake of the Insta. I’ve dangled over balconies to capture the perfect #drinksintheair pic at sunset, scouted out elaborate street art as a backdrop for a rapidly melting ice cream cone, asked strangers if they’d switch seats with me in a restaurant for better natural lighting, and I once ate a buffalo wing coated in 24-karat edible gold dust.

I consider myself lucky to have witnessed, during my lifetime, the complete 180 of Brussels sprouts’ identity as a vegetable. It seems like in the blink of an eye, these mini cabbages went from being steamed, stinky, and kinda uncool to roasted, charred, and downright sexy.

One of the Best Places to Eat in Tokyo Is at 7-Eleven
Several years ago I was preparing for a study-abroad trip to Japan when one of the program directors told the group of assembled students that we should write our names in our clothes, pledge not to speak English outside the classroom, and plan on buying all our lunches from the convenience store across the street. I was shocked. Was he seriously suggesting that we eat gas-station hot dogs and potato chips for three months straight?

The Big Drawback to Shiplap Walls That You Might Not Know About
Sick of shiplap yet? It’s the little wall siding that could, chugging its way all across America these days. We’ve seen it in kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and even inside showers. Oh, and it is apparently all over a certain Texas town called Waco — maybe you’ve heard of it? Whether you are a diehard devotee, a grudging admirer, or just looking for another reason to hate it, know that shiplap has at least one major check in the “con” column.

6 Ways to Skip Meal Prep This Weekend
As one of the team leaders of Kitchn’s Meal Plan Club, this is a little hard for me to admit: I’m not that into meal prep. Meal prep is the last task in meal planning that really puts your plan into action and makes weeknight dinners that much easier and less stressful, but I fail at it most weeks.

The Single Best Thing You Can Do Before Going on Vacation
Going on vacation is supposed to be relaxing and fun. But there is always so much to worry about before you leave — and even while you’re away! You need to check your luggage to make sure you packed everything you meant to. Then when you’re actually on vacation, you are worrying about your house and your pets, hoping that they are being good for the sitter. And how many times have you stressed about turning the stove off before you left the house? Did you turn it off?

Skip Meal Prep with These Freezer Staples
I love meal planning. It is one of my favorite ways to feel prepared for each week and reduce my daily stress. But meal prep? The final step in meal planning where you chop veggies, make dressings, maybe even cook some meals? I’m really bad at it. Finding time — even just a few hours — over the weekend to cook is probably as hard for you as it is for me. Lately, I’ve been relying on the freezer aisle to help me prep parts of our meal plans to save me time during the week.

Costco Is Adding Healthier Items to Food Court Menus and Getting Rid of Polish Dogs
It’s always exciting when Costco starts introducing a new food court item, like a giant new cheeseburger or the new al pastor salad made with vegan protein instead of meat. The only problem is that when a new item enters, often an old one must leave. There’s only so much room in the kitchen, and on the menu, after all.

5 Mistakes to Avoid When Cooking Frozen Vegetables
Frozen vegetables are a smart cook’s secret weapon. They eliminate two of the biggest roadblocks in the kitchen: washing and prepping produce (hello, slippery squash and stubborn edamame pods) and the time-consuming cleanup that inevitably follows. And, they’re pretty much the easiest way to work more veggies into your diet.

The Grocery Store Section You Really Should Pay More Attention To
Picture this: You’ve invited everyone over for a barbecue and, as you’re chucking steaks, burgers, and chicken into your cart, you realize you need tongs, a spatula, and other basic grilling tools. You had stuff last year but it kinda got ruined (whoops!). With all you have to do to get ready for guests, you don’t have time to make another stop at Bed Bath & Beyond or Williams Sonoma to outfit yourself with equipment. Luckily, you don’t have to.

The 2 Things You Should Pay Attention to on Food Labels, According to The New York Times
Sometimes it feels like I spend a solid quarter of my life reading nutrition labels. I know I have to read those labels to know what’s in my food, but reading all the labels — for everything — means a trip to the grocery store takes at least twice as long as it would if it didn’t involve standing around the aisles googling “xylitol” while the ice cream melts.

Thanks to an ever-changing lineup of cooking shows, instructional YouTube clips, and, ahem, websites like this one, there are a ton of resources for beginning cooks and kitchen novices. 5 Foods in Desperate Need of an Incredibles 2-Style Image Makeover
The hotly anticipated Incredibles 2 smashed box-office records last month, including being the biggest opening for an animated movie ever. A sequel to the 2004 tale of a family of superheroes with real-world problems, the film finds Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), and the rest of the Parrs in a world in which citizens with superpowers are forced to hide their secret identities. Not cool!

The Instant Pot Is the Best Sidekick Your Grill’s Ever Had
My summer goals include only heating up my tiny kitchen for s’mores bars, so I’m using the grill as often as possible to get dinner done during the week. The key to weeknight grilling is to prepare as much in advance as possible. That means making big batches of marinated meats during Sunday meal prep, but it also means busting out one of my favorite multi-tools for prepping everything from corn to potatoes before they get to the grill.

The Best Gas Station in the Country Has Brisket, Jerky, Fudge, and So Much More
The Lone Star State possesses the perfect environment for gas-station innovation. With 675,580 total road miles, it leads the nation in black top (California ranks a distant second with a paltry 394,608), providing a captive audience willing to support exit-ramp excellence. Its humongous size cultivates a cramped-averse population who possess a skewed sense of proportion (read: we expect a lot of space, and all our beverages arrive super-sized).
