Use the Minimalists’ 90/90 Rule to Help Declutter Your Kitchen
It’s amazing to me how quickly my kitchen gets cluttered. Even though I tend to use the same things every day — the same pots and pans, same dishes, same glasses — my cabinets are totally full. Part of it is that we love to entertain, so in addition to the everyday stuff, we need the party stuff, like the big salad bowl, and the serving tray, and the cool brass-plated silverware I found on eBay that lives in its own special, enormous box. Part of it is the kids’ stuff.

The Super-Strong Vinegar German Moms Use to Clean
Here at Kitchn, I feel like we’ve established that German moms are superior cleaners. They clean things right away, aren’t afraid to get on their hands and knees, and vacuum their floors with military precision. So recently I grilled a German girlfriend of mine, Steffi, who has two little kids the same age as mine, on her cleaning techniques.

A Man Tried to Return Butternut Squash Because He Thought It Was Cheese
It’s a mistake that could happen to anyone — anyone who can’t read or is not paying attention while shopping in the produce aisle. A man purchased what he believed to be cubed cheese only to find he bought diced butternut squash. His frustration upon finding squash instead of cheese is a universal sentiment that can be felt by cheese-lovers around the world. The shopper took his fight to the supermarket to get his return.

The One Thing I Never Do When Hosting Weekend Guests
There’s all sorts of standard advice telling people what to do in order to be a great host for weekend guests (leave freshly washed towels on their beds, share your WiFi password, feed your guests, etc.), but I have one thing that you shouldn’t do! For starters, your guests may be able to get out of work early on Friday or take off on Monday, but you might not be.

5 Things to Know About Freezer Burn
Have you ever opened up your freezer to find that your once red beef is looking a little brown? Or taken a pint of ice cream out only to discover the top is covered in ice crystals? Freezer burn happens to the best of us. Here’s what you should know. Hint: It involves a trip to the farmers market. Usually, our visitors arrive on a Friday evening after work and dinner on the road on the way up from the city.

You Have to See This Pretty, Peachy Pink Kitchen
Peach! It’s practically the color of summer, right? Whether you’re searing them on the grill or freezing them into a rich peach pie ice cream, juicy peaches likely have a constant presence in your kitchen from June to August. But if you’ve never thought about painting your kitchen walls in the kind-of-pink, kind-of-orange shade, this Barcelona kitchen, from Cargo Collective, might inspire you to change that.

5 Things to Know About Cleaning Your Freezer’s Built-in Ice Maker
There’s nothing better on a hot summer day than filling a tall glass totally full of ice cubes, then splashing a little something on top — be it water, LaCroix, or something stronger — for a super-chilly refreshment. But if that ice has an odor, or leaves little scaly bits in your beverage? That certainly ruins the moment.

Sour Cherries Are the Rare and Beloved Fruit of Summer. Here’s Where to Find Them.
Sour cherries are one of my most eagerly awaited fresh fruits of the summer. Thin-skinned and tart, they aren’t really best for eating out of hand. We who love them use them as creatively and quickly as we can, putting their bright, acidic hit to good use in jams, cakes, pies, cocktails, and even in the occasional savory dish. Picture your classic cherry pie, bright-red and glowing with orbs of juicy fruit. Well, you’ve just pictured sour cherries.

8 Things to Do for a Good Morning Commute
Mornings! Right? Very few of us pull into our office parking lot looking as happy as this girl pictured above. It’s understandable: There are so many things that happen to us between waking up and walking into our office. A lot of these things are out of our control (the torrential downpour that came out of nowhere, the inexplicable traffic you hit on the highway, your toddler’s meltdown over his socks being orange). Luckily, though, there are a few things you can control.

Minimalism Is Just Another Boring Product Wealthy People Can Buy
Welcome to a column from The Financial Diet, one of our very favorite sites, dedicated to money and everything it touches. One of the best ways to take charge of your financial life is through food and cooking. This column from TFD founders Chelsea Fagan and Lauren Ver Hage will help you be better with money, thanks to the kitchen. A version of this post originally appeared on The Financial Diet. The One Thing I Always Have on Hand for Outdoor Eating
Even for the neatest eater, a meal outside almost always leads to some sort of mess. Sticky hands, a blob of ketchup on your thigh (hey, at least it missed your shorts!), corn on the cob guts all over your face — it’s all possible! Sometimes, napkins just aren’t enough and you need a good old-fashioned hand (or thigh) washing. Of course, during a picnic, the nearest sink could be football fields away.

This Easy Sheet Cake Will Make All Your Chocolate Dreams Come True
The next time a serious chocolate craving hits, this is the recipe you’ll want in your back pocket. It’s the least fussy cake you can make — the batter mixes up in one bowl, and it bakes in a sheet pan — but it totally delivers on rich, chocolatey goodness you’re after. Just make sure you have plenty of cold milk on hand to wash it all down. By far the best thing about sheet cakes is how simple they are (no layers to contend with!).

7 Tips for Hosting a Summer Party
Summer is my favorite time of the year to entertain. Warm weather, longer days, and the slightly relaxed schedule of these months provide the atmosphere and time to prioritize having friends over in a way I can never seem to over the holidays. The Best Ways to Remove Cherry Stains from Your Clothes, Skin, and Kitchen
My kids love cherries! But because my girls are young, I remove the pits before serving them, which leaves my cutting boards, laminate countertops, and fingers covered in cherry stains. Also because my girls are young, I inevitably end up with cherry-stained clothing, mouths, dish towels, and more. Cherry stains everywhere!

Look at the Prettiest Drawers to Ever Exist in a Kitchen!
We’re big fans of drawers — instead of lower cabinets — in the kitchen. They often result in more storage space, and they make it easy to see all the contents. (And they’re just an unexpected thing to find, as most kitchens have one drawer and then a cabinet — not a row of drawers.) So you can imagine how excited we got when we saw this kitchen, belonging to Anya Kassoff, the blogger behind Golubka Kitchen. Just look at those drawers!

Why Are Some Cucumbers at the Grocery Store Wrapped in Plastic?
In the produce section of my grocery store, right above the big bin of work-a-day, slicing cucumbers, there sits another section of cucumbers snuggly blanketed in plastic wrap. It’s summer, it’s Friday, and it’s unbearably hot outside, which can only mean one thing: you need a frosty drink. This rosé slushie is just the ticket.
