Before Anthony Bourdain’s passing in 2018, he was working on a brand new book. And while he wasn’t able to finish it, it will be published later this year — set to come out on October 13, 2020. Bourdain was working on the book with his assistant Laurie Woolever, the woman who also co-authored his last cookbook Appetites. This new book will be called World Travel: An Irreverent Guide and it’s currently available for pre-order.

According to the publisher Ecco, the book is “a guide to some of the world’s most fascinating places,” and you can just imagine what Bourdain had seen and experienced in his lifetime to then put into this piece of work.

Most of the book had been written while Bourdain was still alive, so it has a lot of depth in terms of what Bourdain had actually seen with his own eyes and what he wanted to share with the world. So while Woolever and the rest of the publishing company finished it, there’s still a great deal of Bourdain’s personality and voice in the contents, as well as the context based on his own stories and thoughts, which makes it a truly special, inspirational read.

Inside you’ll find the best tips on where to dine, what to order, which places to stay in, and more, in various parts throughout the world and where Bourdain set foot in his lifetime for travel. There will also be various essays scattered throughout the pages from friends, family members, and others who influenced his life, including one from Steve Albini where he discusses how to find delicious and cheap food in Chicago.

The cover sets the scene — there’s Bourdain outside a Paris café, and the rest of the book will be also illustrated in similar fashion and theme. The illustrator is Tony Millionaire, who was able to capture Bourdain and his experiences perfectly. So, here’s something really look forward to later this year.
