For decades, Angela Lansbury captured the hearts of television and movie buffs around the world. Most known for her iconic role in Murder, She Wrote, Lansbury also starred in numerous fantastic films throughout her career, including The Manchurian Candidate, as well providing the voice in animated classics such as Beauty and the Beast and Anastasia. Considering her stature in Hollywood, it’s fun to imagine what type of home Lansbury grew old in. And now that the late actress’ Spanish-style estate is up for sale, we’re finally getting an exclusive peek inside.

Originally built in 1962, Lansbury purchased the estate with her husband, Peter Shaw, in 1985 for $925,000. Lansbury and Shaw would go on to call this their home for nearly 40 years, with Shaw’s passing taking place in 2003, and Lansbury’s in October 2022. The estate is being offered on behalf of the family at just around $4.5 million.

From the outside, gates and high walls block the view from the street, creating a private oasis. On the inside, the 3,708-square-foot 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom home leans more towards modest than glamorous. Terra-cotta tile floors lead you throughout the estate, while loads of natural light — by way of large windows and multiple skylights — fill the rooms. The master suite comes stocked with its own personal skylight, fireplace, and bathroom. Other notable features include multiple full glass French doors, a wood-burning fireplace with breakfast nook, and a large, dedicated dining room.

The kitchen, of course, is our favorite feature. Although a bit stylishly dated, it is well-kept, and its utilitarian style lends to the charm of the residence. Guests can enjoy plenty of counter space for cooking and prep, as well as a small breakfast island, and plenty of cabinet space throughout.

Outside, the handy work of Lansbury’s green thumb is on display throughout the half-acre grounds. An English-style garden — as well as countless specimen trees — can be found throughout, and a spacious patio and swimming pool are ready for guests to enjoy.

But don’t just take my word for the amazingness that Lansbury’s green thumb offers. The property’s photographer, Joe Bryant, told Kitchn that while it was filled with captivating spaces throughout, the backyard was the space that really deserved the applaud.

“Angela’s home radiated an air of love and joy, which continued as I ventured past the swimming pool and into the garden. There, I discovered a magical greenhouse — her secret garden, nestled so perfectly and privately away from the world’s prying eyes,” he said. “It was undoubtedly her sanctuary, and I felt deeply honored to have been chosen to capture its essence through my lens for Mick Partridge, The Beverly Hills Estates.”

The home, which is listed by Mick Partridge of The Beverly Hills Estates and Maksym Khomin of Coldwell Banker, can be viewed here. If you’re interested in making this one yours, though, you better get a move on. This one is guaranteed to get snatched up sooner than later.
